Hey, I think I did this backwards. I bought your book last night, had a question, and posted it in the newbie room where I was told that you were here. Small world. lol

I'm about ready to start my first grow and was going to start using your method since I'm currently limited to 6 plants and need a quick turn around. I only have one question....

By forcing the plants into a flowering stage before maturity, am I going to be sacrificing potency? If yes, is there any way to counter the loss of potency?

Also, is anyone can tell me how to go about getting signed up as someone's caregiver in CO without paying one of those license places $500 I'd appreciate it.

Hey all.
Planning on doing my first ever grow soon
Still doing a bit of research on grow medium and nutrients.
But I already have some lights I wanted to run by the experts here.
they were 22 bucks at home depot and include a 42(actual wattage, not output) watt cfl at 6500k.
http://www.homedepot.com/Lighting-Fans-Security-Flood-Lighting/h_d1/N-5yc1vZaqp5Z66xgp/R-100671624/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053

I plan on gutting all the unnecessary bits from the fixture to save space.
And if anyone can find me replacement bulbs for this fixture online, that would be sweet.
The fixture has a ballast so the bulbs do not need one.
It would be great if I can find some bulbs for flowering to use in these same fixtures.

thoughts? tips? suggestions?

Thanks a ton!

edit: I bought the book!

that fixture is a waste of your money my friend. ALL CFL BULBS ARE SELF-BALLASTED remember that, thats why CFL growers have it easy. The big white collar at the base of the bulb is the ballast.. if you're looking for CFL with balls BI Hydro CFL that is where my 125W (actual wattage) bulbs come from, they require fixtures with mogul base though (socket style used for HPS and MH bulbs). HTGSupply is another good resource, although there website has been screwy lately. If you're going by the book though, 23W CFL is the way to go, and you can pick those up at any big box retailers.

thanks for the info.
But I believe you are wrong.
This bulbs that this fixture came with do NOT have a big white collar at the base.
Or at least not like any of the others Ive seen.
I was told by an associate at home depot that this does in fact have an internal ballast in the fixture.
We'll see when I dig into it.

After looking online at cfl prices in various wattages, I still cannot find a 42 watt cfl + fixture in 6500 k that beats this price.
Tell me I'm wrong.
I'd love to find a cheaper option.
Yes I'm aware that any old fixture will work. EDIT* for regular CFLs *EDIT
But, my roommate and I bought these whilst in an impulsive state of mind.

The sales associate at the depot mentioned that a metal halide bulb(or something like that) could be used in this fixture if the wattage was right.

I don't know about that though.
Nor does it interest me.

ALL THIS BOOK IS
Is a book doccumenting a guys CFL grow, that's it..
It shows a lot of generals but VERY FEW SPECIFICS
Very poorly written IMO and I just got done reading it.
I've seen better CFL grow threads ON HERE, AND THEY'RE FREE!!
Don't buy this book from this lame ass tryin to make a dime on your time.
Because it's a waste of your time. A lot more info on these boards and some of it better at that.
I'm sure this is some mods book tryin to make a quick buck or somethin, but it's WEAK.

very few specifics?!
what about the guide to building a CFL "hood"?
what about the info on soil/water pH?
what about the information on how much water each plant recieved?
what about the information on drying and curing?
what about the guide on cloning?

all told the book is an AWESOME standalone growing guide, especially for beginners! i thought (and still think) the book was awesome. got a lot of useful information i'm going to utilize for my first soil grow.

i agree alex. he's a loser. lol
