I just hope after these next two weeks its just clear and sunny...mine are still early on in flower.. as I am further south but you pulled early because of mold? just curious cuz this if my first time outdoors

Last year was a shitty end of the season. I pulled early due to rot. The rain compounded the problem. As with every season I just pick it off and try to keep up with it till it gets ridiculous. This season I have enough outside to let it go full term.

Yo bro I only skimmed the first and last couple pages but everything looks great from what I saw. I'm just wondering about one detail I didn't see in your smoke report. What is the smell/taste like? Very important factor IMO. The WR I grew from a different breeder didn't have a very strong smell or taste as I told you in that other thread but the little flavor that was there was pleasant I suppose... just kind of bland. It tasted pretty much like a glass of milk. Creamy I guess would be the best descriptor. Not at all what I was expecting. So what is yours like?

And as far as the camera I bet you could find a decent one in a pawn shop or craigslist or something for cheap. I bought the camera I still use to this day in 2001 and it takes awesome budshots in macro mode. Fujifilm FinePix E550 - it's 6.3 megapixel which is plenty for forum pics. I bet they're cheap as shit now.

I am actually in the market for a digital SLR. I think I found my baby. It is a Canon 30D body. Not sure on my lenses yet.

As for the smell.. I found mine to smell sweet, piney, and kinda of sour at the same time. Like an organic bathroom cleaner. Taste is amazing...ESPECIALLY when you first spark up a nicely rolled dutch. The smell is sweet when exhaled and not too harsh on the lungs. This is a report from bud that was taken probably a week or two early. I was in a jam and needed some smoke. I have a nice momma that is about to come down that I am letting go longer. Should pick up some potency in the process.

LST plant came down yest... didn't take pics, due to my shitty camera situation... and FDD hurt my feelings the last time i posted harvest pics.... haha JK. But seriously no pics... I was suposed to be picking up a Canon 30D but haxn't come through yet and the trichs said it was time to come down. Anyway... the results from this momma were 365g wet. Trimming these were a snap... larger colas have less to trim I have found. These things were rock solid when I was trimming and most looked like trichome covered hand grenades. I figure this plant alone will out yield the two screens combined. I am very happy the way these turned out. I also let this girl go a little bit longer(65 days 12/12) than the screens(56 days 12/12). Should be dried by the end of the week. Looking to have a sample on Sunday for NFL kickoff. Cheers to all still following along... I know I slacked off but school is first priority.

Yeah it sure is. Should have the 30D by the time the outdoors come in. Went out today to check on the progress today outdoors and found some bud worms chillin in the patches.... not too thrilled but it is my own fault for not being pro-active and treating them during the veg stage. Now I just hope that I caught it early enough to preserve a good harvest. I used Safer Soap and completely drenched the buds and remaining fan leaves. Strain is supposed to finish around the end of Oct. so I think I should have enough time to treat them a few more times before I stop. Seeing some signs of blight as well... cuz of such the rainy summer. Next year i will be much more prepared and get after the bugs ASAP rather than waiting till flower time.

Just went through my journal... and pretty close numbers on the different styles. The 2 screens accounted for 363 wet, while the LST and 3 weeks more veg time yielded 2 extra grams wet. I could have probably let the Rhino go longer.. but I am not really looking for the couch lock high. Maybe next time around I will let one go until it shows 50% amber. Camera has been paid for and will be in my hand by Oct. 4. Can't wait to take some macro bud shots!!!

Thanks doc.. I am going to make this post hoping to cause a stir and see if someone can confirm or deny this claim.

I bought Jorge Cervantes Indoor/Outdoor Bible a few months back and have read the whole thing through... more than once. I am particularly interested with the artificial light facts the book contains. These are the main things I took away from the reading pertaining to marijuana and how it uses light.

First...Forget about power ratings... all that tells you is how much money it will cost you to keep your lights on. 1000watt = 1Kw =.11 cents in most areas

Second... lumens are important but not the sole statistic to base your lighting decision on. The Color spectrum is also very important. Plants only use certain wavelengths of light for photosynthesis. Therefore using a ton of lumens of the wrong wavelength is like shooting a steel door with a million wooden arrows. Finding a light source that reproduces the wavelengths plants like is important. The research I have uncovered show that Flouresecent tubes, and LED are the best at reproducing these specific wavelengths.

400-500nm is ideal for vegatative growth while 650-750nm are ideal for flowering cannabis plants. So plants are using light between 400nm and 750 nm. Photosythetic response is greatest between 600-700nm +/- 25 nm. Flourescent tubes actually compare very well with HID lighting when reproducing these specific wavelengths.

Third...light distribution over canapoy. so that all of the plant material receives equal amount of lumens is important to maximizing how efficiently a plant will photosynthesize. How you distribute those lumens is very important. If the bulb must be raised because of heat issues and 1 main branch that is outgrowing the rest... then light distribution is very uneven. I know reflectors come into play and redirect light...but if it comes down to only 2500-5000 lumens falling on most of the canpoy. 1000 watt HPS produces only 2500-4000 lumens at 3ft. If you can get it as close as 2 ft it is only 5500-8000. I have never grown HID but I am pretty sure it is hard to keep a 1000watter that close to a canpoy especially one that is uneven.

So here is the debate. T5 HO bulbs pump out 5000lumens each and can be bought in many different light spectrum ratings. I have never used T5 so I cannot vouch for how warm the bulbs get... but my T8 bulbs putting out 3000lumens each can touch foliage for hours and not burn the plant.

I am a little baked and I am losing my focus, but to wrap it up. Using SOG or SCROG technique to keep a flat canopy I am wondering if there might be a benefit to using flouros...Cost is much cheaper tan HID.. replace 1 tube at a time if need be...more work required to train the canopy to stay flat but much less power consumed and less heat generated.... definitely not for commercial growers...just maybe a new way for the hobbyist or someone on a low budget to grow....

This has been my thinking exactly! I'm stoked I found your thread. I havn't gotten very far in this one, but I think I read in another that you eventually moved it under a 1000 watt, and I'll read on and find out why and how great that went, but for now...yeah, I didn't have any more room in my little hps flower closet and already had a T5 set up and ready, two blue bulbs, two red. Plus I am allowed to grow more, and I've been wanting to try a scrog. I decided to find out how much I could get from a two plant scrog with one small light and one small fan, in case I'm one day reduced to a tiny grow box or something. Screen's at 7 inches. I know, that's low! but the light is small. Okay, rambling. sorry. Last thing, don't know if you ever tried them, but T5's are really cool too. I've also had plants touching them for hours without any burning. Check out the pics. Just put the screen on. Peace

Hey dude I can't get that link to come up. Can you sum it up in a nutshell for me e.g. floro = much lower yeild, but at a muc much lower cost. or somewhat lower yeild at much lower cost, etc.

Hey grop gald you stopped by.

You have lots of great questions, and I will do my best to try and answer them from my own experiences. Your SCROG setup looks good. Have you started flowering yet, or still in veg? I made the mistake of not training my plants through the screen before I started flowering. This left me with some open spaces in my screen and did not utilize the screen to its full potential. I just let my floro hoods rest on my screen. The bulbs were recessed into the hood about 1.5 inches soo I would just let them sit on the screen and everyday just pull the new growth back through the screen and redirect it under the screen. I never used T5'... although I would like to... just too expensive for floro (and the extra 1800 lumens is probably negligible for the cost, I can get T8 fixtures for under $10 at Wally World.) I would say you are well on your way to a nice first SCROG.. Feel free to post any other questions you may have in here and I will try to help you out. Dry yield for the hps, Parabolic Scrog cabinet:

PPP1 = 64g
PPP2 = 50g
BM = 30g
total: 144g (5.1 Ounces)

Combine that with the 76g from the flouro cabinet

So as you can see the HPS doubled what the floro's did.

Yours and Riz's are the two scrog threads I've been through recently, and they made me notice something I hadn't previously considered: the early flowering stretch. I noticed Riz filled almost the whole screen before flipping and then his stretched quite a bit past the screen. It still worked out good, but that's not what I want. And yours, like you said, got flipped too early. I'm thinking, since a plant will double or triple in size during flower, I'm gonna fill in about half the screen before I flip. Then continue to thread tops until the screens full. When it's full, the stretch will be done...hopefully.
Do you think an indica or a sativa would be better for scrog? I picked an indica, Blackberry. The version thats going around here is White Rhino x Blueberry.

Sounds like you are doing your due diligence before making the switch. You are a smart man. I would say that sounds like a good idea. I flipped mine right when I put them under the screen. I think even a week of veg under the screen would have helped me tremendously. I saw Riz's scrog... and I am pretty sure he used Metal Halide for the entire grow. Might be why his stretched as much as they did, not sure though...it could have been like you said and just vegged under the screen too long. I think your strain choice is perfect. Mine White Label Rhino's are about a 50/50 split indica/sativa. I would say by the end of the 3rd week of 12/12 you should be nearing the end of the stretch. If you haven't already and have the time to wait an extra week or two... you might want to think about topping your plant 2 or 3 times... will help with lateral branching and filling that screen in.

Did an emergency harvest today... mother nature was truly looking to devestate my entire crop if I did not act fast. I started to see the first signs of mold and that was the last straw. I went out early this morn and field dressed the girls. Had a few helpers come with me and we went in there commando style and grabbed everything during a downpour. They were calling for hail, and one of the ladies was already laying on her side when we got back out there. I am really surprised at how much their is. I almost ran out of room to hang everything....luckily that is a problem I don't mind having... should have a dry weight in a week or so... Still have about 12+hours of trimming to go....Buds smell like graperuit!!!! the house smells wonderful right now!!
