alright, i was just as lost as you when i began 2 months ago
i'll give you a crash course so you can grow 1 plant, with relative success...
in that box (sort of like mine) get the following (i'm breaking it down by store and everything,):
Walmart:
3 clamp lights - 5 bux a piece (they're the cheap kind but you need to get going)
1 two pack 42 watt soft white CFL.
1 Four Pack 26 watt Soft White CFL (not more 42 watt because they clank into each other
1 Four pack 26 watt Daylight CFL.
1 elmers spray glue
1 2 dollar plastic planter, or bigger if you wish...
2 emergency blankets
for ventilation you can use PC fans, or i just bought a 9 inch fan at walmart, they are like 6-8 bux, it's overkill for a box, but i had trouble finding the DC converter for the PC fans, so i just got that one.....
From Home Depot:
3 y-splitters, turns one socket into two.
3 exdendors
Get back to your house, close the top of your box by creating a dome (adds like 4-5 inches to the top, and best way to put the 9 inch fan on, if that's what you use). if you just want to close the box and leave it square thats fine too for now... remember tomake a 4-5 inch hole at the top if you don't have a fan for passive ventilation. Also make some holes on the bottom-sides of the box for passive ventilation (heat rises out the top, cold enters through the bottom holes).
line the interior of the box with the blankets, using the spray glue, be careful to get it as flat as possible.
now, for the lights:
put one extendor in the clamp light, then the y socket, then: like this
clamp light 1: 1 42 watt soft white, 1 26 watt daylight.
Clamp light 2: same as clamp light 1.
Clamp light 3: 2 26 watt daylights.
Install these on the sides of your box as high as possible.
this is for veg:
light cycle is: 18 hours on 6 off. make sure you seal the box for light leaks, if you cannot, then put the plants somewhere completely dark for the dark period.
for flowering switch all but one daylight bulb for a the softwhite 26 watters.... and switch the lighting to 12 hours on 12 hours off...
good luck
