maui waui day 24 flowering...what's wrong?

this is my very first attempt at growing and i chose a straight-up sativa - maui waui! not a very wise choice for a closet grow, as it wants to grow to be 20 feet tall outdoors!

ok, try to keep up with me here...

i vegged for 3 months with another plant (which turned out to be male) under 2X250 watts MH. one of my lights was a HPS-only, but was unaware of this all throughout the veg phase. so, i've been screwing MH bulbs into the HPS light and they were firing up 70% of the time for me (crazy, i know). i suffered some "cloudy" days with half the closet only lit.

now, in the flowering stage, i've figured out a way to rig the bulb so it has a 100% start-up rate. though i've noticed the HPS light drains the MH bulbs quite heavily. my other MH light works fine.

i'm sorry for the shitty pics, but you can see in the first pic how underdeveloped the buds are 3 weeks into flowering.

shouldn't she be more fuller? should i go 10 weeks?

I grew that strain in 2007, by chance from nirvina? The sativa takes a long time to go through flower, don't be surprised to go 12 to 15 weeks especially if the light level is low. The plant looks fine and about where it should be, a little molasses right now IMHO would be a good thing to add once a week, 1 tablespoon per gallon of water. Good Luck and patience is a virtue with sativas.

3 months is a long time to veg a sativa. Most who try indoor sativas switch to flower very early to help deal with size/streach.

Also consider flowering longer than your stated 10 weeks. Like posted above 15 or more weeks wouldn't suprize me. i was just looking at a site with "heirloom" sativas Like columbian gold etc. that were listing flower times at 18-26 weeks.

26 weeks?! yikes! ha! it's ok, i have nothing but time. my main concern was the bud sites reaching somewhat their potential. i'm glad to hear things are ok, just a little on the slow side.

i bought the seeds (non-feminized) online from buydutchseeds.com

Glad to be of service. Do me a favor and turn in a smoke report on your moui wowi when It's finished. :)

flower for 26 weeks that's crazy, 10-12 weeks for sativa, 8-10 weeks for indica. I have NEVER heard of anyone flowering for 26 weeks, mind you that is 6 months. If you let that plant go that long I will pretty much guarantee that it will lose most of its potency..

Those plants look great for only 24 days into flowering. They will def start to beef up. Patience pays off in this game

No offense to the guy that posted that he read on a site that they could flower for 18-26 weeks, but that site is giving you some bullshit advice. I would look else where for some advise.... I had a friend that grew maui and he usually chopped at the end of the 10th week. BEST WEED I'VE EVER SMOKED......

you are using a MH bulb in a HPS fixture and vice-versa? you would be better off using the right bulb for each ballast. using the wrong bulb can be a fire hazard.it wont hurt the plants to have 1 HPS &1 MH during flower, some prefer to mix 1 MH w/ 2 HPS to even out the light spectrum.

also your plants are WAY to tall for indoors, usually you wanna start flowering about 10-12 inches tall because when they start to flower they could grow up to another 6-8 inches tall. And by the looks of what lights your using, it's not enough. If you can afford it get yourself a 1000 watt hps, your girls will get beefy as hell. More lumens=BIGGER BUDS....

...a fellow maui waui grower on another forum suggested 3 months veg.

i would like to continue to grow sativas, so i will keep this rule in mind for future grows. thanks.
