i used my own dirt. but it was also from my compost pile that sat out their for a year to it was RICH WITH NUTES. but it's my first time growing to and let me tell you it's hard work your first time around. i went from 5 plant to 2. i just had to destroy another one to being a male. ain't that a bitch...
but if you use regular dirt keep digging up that area your going to plant many times and water it many times a week befor you plant that will help get the dirt ready. and check the dirt for acidity. cuz that will just waste your time growing a bunch of males. but good luck man. and don't let the eye in the sky get you. and if your just going to start growing i think it is a lil to late in the season... depending on where you live.

also if your trying to grow the shit to sell. grow as much as you can because if you get busted for one it's the same as getting busted for 99 plants after that if goes up to a bigger charge... and also if you are going to grow this shit do it all organic... because that will get your customers to LOVE YOUR SHIT... it tastes better and feel it's just a hole better quality of weed when it's organic

Wood ash is used mainly for the nutrient part, with a fertilizer value of about 0-1-3 (N-P-K) (Also can replace Limes roll somewhat)
Lime would be to maintain a proper Ph level and thus allow your plants to more easily take up nutrients
Tilling the soil helps loosen it up and breath some life into the lower levels
As for the seeds, they will crack and a root will pop out. Generally I put mine in the soil when they are about an inch or so long.
(About 2 inches they usually start to yellow very badly and die so sometime before then)

damn mine outside are already starting to flower. hell they have been since around july 26. and i tried to start some early august but the weather just wouldn't permit they dried up and died. but i live in oklahoma. but i mean why not try if they take. they take. if they don't try growing inside.

then you should have put more holes in it for drainade. i used nieces lego container that was big and i used a old trash container and got my knive and stabbed it many many many many many.... i think you get my point. but i don't have drainage problems. if you have a drain problem put more holes in it. it's not rocket science

the only way you can ever learn is hands on and do it!! dont matter if its your first time or not!! it is work but you learn tricks going down the road of growing. weed will grow almost anywere!! its funny we got wiled pot around here(sux full of seeds and no buzz) i have seen snow on the ground cold as hell every thing is dead from frost look out in the ditchs and find green plants still growing!!(if the ground dont freez thy can live through the cold) its the strongest plant in the world!! good seeds is the trick bro!!junk seeds will grow junk weed no matter how you grow it!!

Pretty much the truth. Strains do help but I'm yet to see a bag seed grown well not come out terrific. Also, if the plants are going to be in pots then I would really consider perlite if your soil is clay like as it will help the drainage a great deal, and some fibers like coca fiber or peat moss can help with water retention and breath ability. Wal-mart sells it but if your doing a lot of pots you can get huge bags at most hydro stores. Worth mentioning also though that wood ash can again be used to help in those areas, just not quiet as well. (But free)

Well not sure how organic your planning on going, but stuffs free so worth mentioning that Spent coffee grounds and Egg shells both can be dried out, crushed up, and used as a fertilizer.(Mainly Nitrogen, but they have some other trace elements.) Egg Shells also are a high %calcium carbonate which is what lime primarily is, meaning it can be a cheap replacement to buying lime but again I don't believe its as good.
Anyway just basically read as much as you possibly can, and then read some more, and you'll be thankful you spent that extra time when your done.
