400 vs 600 vs 1000 hid

ok. . So I have two 400 watt lights. Overhead high bay vertical. I like my lights but think I messed up and should have bought 600's. Here's a few questions. Is 1000 better then 2 600's. I no that the lumens per watt is highest with 600's at about 153 lumens per watt. A 1000 is at about 145 and a 400 at about 125. So you get more light for your buck wit a 600. There's efficiency. Then there's the heat. 1000's are hot! 600's n 400 are not !

Another question. I no when it comes to addin up lights you add the watts together. Such as 600 plus a 600 would be 1200 watts. But do you use the same addition principle with the lumens. Like a 600 with 92000 each bulb would add too 184000 for two. Or is it different and do you use more of a percentage of the lumen with each additional bulb.
All facts n opinions welcome. Please explain why you like what you like.

More throw as in penetrates deeper? But if you can be closer to the plant because of less heat with the 600 or 400. And as you move away you lose a substantial amount of lumen. Where do you draw the mine? Whats best still.

Ive read a lot of threads that a lot of people went ahead and bought 600's and now they wish they would have bought 1000. But I feel like I need two lights. I have my plants in a 6FT by 3 FT formation. And I want one light over each 3 by 3. I feel like itd be way better with two rather then one in the center. At the moment I have two 400's doib that. But later on I think I might upgrade I just can't figure out to what? 600 or 1000

2kw is just too much for a 6x3 canopy. If you want to up your harvest you need a larger room first, then larger lights. As far as heat goes they are ALL hot. 3x400w, 2x600w, 1x1000w doesn't matter as far as heat is concerned there's not much difference combined wattage vs combined wattage.

They are all hot, curable with air cooled ventilation.

Yea 2x92,000 lumen bulbs is 184,000Lumens total.

2x600w allows for more distribution than 1x1000w. However, if you really think you're gonna get more bang for your buck calculate $/lumen instead of lumens per watt, because 2x600w air cooled will cost you nearly twice as much as 1x1000w air cooled (maybe save $100 versus buying 2x1000w).

2x600w ~ 184,000 lumens
2x1000w ~ 310,000 lumens

you have to add ballast wattage as well
so a 400w is actually a 430w plus ballast watt is like 50 so 480w and a 600 would be 640w plus 50w and so on

like argo 400w are 430w bulbs because of the extra blue spectrum and a 430 w is a 500w its crazy stuff but thats how it goes

Well, I only wanted to grow a couple plants at first and work my way up as i learned but then I thought Naw......If i get a little light Imma just be mad at myself later and went for the 1000 watter. Now I just need a vented hood for it. I gotta set the room ac at 70 to keep the canopy at 83-85. Cooler would definately be nice.

I thought that it was 15% ballast end so a 400w ballast consumes 460w and a 1000w ballast consumes 1150w. For core and coil.

Maximum lumens and coverage would be acquired with a 1000watt HID on a light mover, if you want max coverage and max intensity.

toss an air or water cooled hood in with the light mover and you could have that 1000watt buzzing the tops all day

Warlord, I cool my hood with a $13 bathroom exhaust fan placed directly on top of my hood. Does wonders by pulling fresh intake air over the bulb and exhausting outside the room. add $10 for dryer hose and a clamp and your all set.

Sound is not electromagnetic radiation(light). Sound requires a medium to travel though, light does not.

Both are waveforms, light is also a particle(photon). Waveforms which align phase amplify one another. If you have two times the amount of light particles... that's also two times the photon flux.

Plant usable radiation(PUR) is a measurement of the photon density(PPFD, photosynthetic photon flux density -basically a measurement of wattage). 2x600w near each other would create a much higher photon flux density than a single 600w.

Just as two speakers fill a room with sound much better than 1, and 4 better than 2(or 5.1), etc. etc.

Your argument would roughly mean that 1 LED would be the same as an array of LEDs. This is obviously not the case, as anyone with a little common sense can conclude.

Basically all LED lighting consists of arrays of LEDs, this is because many LEDs are obviously brighter than one. This is the same reason fluorescent lighting often has many tubes, 2 or 4 linear tubes is quite typical.

Yes, lumens add. It's that simple. Addition. Lux, on the other hand, is a different story.

Add how? You are not increasing the initial intensity at all, so I do not understand how you can add the lumens to say they have a higher intensity. Plus I thought lumens only matter to people, not plants. If I am wrong I appologize, but I was pretty sure no matter how many 600's you wanna stack up against a 1000, the 1000 will always have more intense light if measured from the same distance from the bulb. Only thing more lights does is provide better coverage. Same thing goes for your LED example. They put a ton of them in one panel cuz the coverage blows, not to make the thing brighter.
