Hi, this is my new grow journal. I was under the name Shiman last time around but changed my name this year for a fresh start. I currently have 7 babies going that are about 8 inches tall. I was really late getting back home to start my plants this year. I grow in Costa Rica now this will be my third grow in the mountains and my 41st year of growing outside as nature has intended. I am very old fashioned in my growing coming out of the 60's and also very organic. I have tried so many different methods and different versions of methods. I am always happy to hear suggestions and comments about my grow, I believe you can teach old dogs new tricks. I plant by the moon, harvest by the moon and prune by the moon. More later........it is time to tend the babies.:bigjoint:

Well, I just stepped the babies up into their 3 gallon new homes, I got 4 of the 7 done anyway a man must have his priorities and 4 was enough for today. The soil I am using is a mixture volcanic soil, dried grass, cow manure and chicken manure ( the chicken manure is a year old and mixed at 1 part per 10 in the soil). I am very late as the sun has already changed so they will want to start flowering in just a few short weeks, I hope to get at least one clone per plant and that should carry me through to the winter months when I can start my seeds in December and then force flower some clones to keep me going. Long story but some noncool person emptied my stash and stole everything out of the house, at least he left my seeds. I have what I think is a Northern Lights babie and then some seeds from last year's grow.......I pollinated two branches from Maui Wowie and the male was from Afgan Skunk both good mountain strains I have learned.
The babies are now between six and eight inches tall, to clearify 5 were planted with the moon day before the full moon on the 6th of June and the other two were plantedon the 12th against the moon (desending moon good for roots but not flowers or growth). I will keep track of the differences between the moon phases as in the past there has been almost twice as much bud with the moon as against. Pictures will follow but they stole my camera so I will have to take the laptop out for my pics...that really sucks.....bastards.
Once again, please feel free to comment, ask questions, tell me how stupid I am in my growing I love hearing and sharing knowledge and opinions.........Hope everyone has a great grow this year....

Hola from Costa Rica, well I woke up today to find that leaf cutter ants just had a feast on a couple of my babies, sorry no pics yet laptop is just a hassle to carry outside, one babie is cut at a leaf node deep into the stem:wall:, another was only feasted on the fan leaves. They both look like they will live to flower provided they don't suffer anymore damage. I have been using nicotine solution to keep the ants and other pests off of them but I guess the rain last night washed it away.
I started 5 new seeds this morning just in case those two don't make it. I have Hawaii Skunk, Master Kush, Hindu Kush, Afghan and one of my own breed which is a cross between Panama Red (I got this on a trip to Panama 2 years ago) and Hawaii Skunk. I don't know how this will turn out I have 2 grows from this cross with totally different phones but killer smoke. More on my breeding later. Today is the 1st of July and the moon is at 71% of full so it is a good phase to plant, although I am planting against the sun since the equinox was the 21st of June. So the plants will come out and want to flower as soon as they are big enough. I don't know if I will be able to clone them on the outside or not, I have had mixed results this time of year.
Anyone that grows outside totally, I just can't bring myself to use grow lights anymore, although I am tempted to try again, I would really appreciate any insight you have. I am very old fashioned as I have said earlier in my growing. I probably don't grow the most potent smoke in the world, but I have had very good grows with some very nice smoke.
I promise to get off my lazy butt and take some pics of the babies, they won't be like my last pics under Shiman51 since, I have been robbed of my stash and my cameras and everything else in the house.

Here are some pics of one of my babies they are a month old now coming out of the ground. They are not as fast growing as some years but it has been cooler than normal here this year. They are all within a couple of cm of each other in their growth, just to lazy to drag all the babies inside for a photo shoot this morning.

Well it is Monday the 6th of July and a full moon. I just stepped up three babies today and worked on the others. I really am having problems with these three, one is from Nirvana and I have had trouble this year with their seeds, don't know if I did something wrong or they are just bad seeds, but I will take the blame for bad storage. Anyway the "superseed" has survived an attack from cutter ants and is finally coming back to life. She is still very small compared to the other 4 which are 7 inches tall and really doing well. The other two are seeds from a friend of mine that I planted against the moon and they are also very slow growing right now. I know better than to plant against the moon but I needed the plants and thought what the hell I will try. The transplants got good chicken compost soil, a dose of super thrive and a little cow manure tea. I know I have said that I am 100% organic and I started thinking about the super thrive.....I really don't know if it is organic or not it doesn't say. The ingredients are just vitamins and hormones, I have been using it all my life, taught to me by my grandfather who was also organic. I guess I have always just assumed and you know what that does makes an ass out of u and me. Anyway the 4 largest shown in the pictures before are growing nicely and getting very dark green as the wood ash which was added on Thursday really works into the soil. I top dressed the new transplants today with woodash also. All the pots have lots of earthworms working around in the soil, so we should be good to go through the grow. I will add egg shells and a few other things to feed them as I go along, coffee grounds which they love, and some veggie scraps, onions, tomato minus any seeds, tatter peels and such.
Haven't had any comments yet but I see that people have looked please tell me what you think.:leaf:

I guess I should clarify some of the growing conditions I am working in. As I said I am growing in Costa Rica at about 6,500 ft above sea level. The daytime temps run from about 65 to 75 during the daytime and from 52 to 58 at night. We get all kinds of rain well over 130 inches a year. The rainy season started the 1st of May and runs through December, with the heaviest month of rain in October when we average a little over 32 inches. The humidity is an eye popping 90 average year round. I also am at 9 degrees North, so the sun is very strong. We only have 15 minutes difference in daylight the entire year. So this is what I face weatherwise, I will say we are generally clear in the mornings from 5 in the morning until about 11 in the morning. :weed:

Well guys my first major problem other than ants in a very long time. By all the research I have done seems I have a plant with phosphorus, lol the spelling sucks but it is what it is right now, lock out, leaves turning brown you can just about watch it spread. I really don't understand all the plants are in the same soil been watered the same, no chems. going to flush it today in hopes I can bring it back. I will try and add a pic to this but the laptop just doesn't get good close ups. Let me see what I can do. Well I flushed with water and super thrive in the water and seems to have stopped it spreading....Poor little baby, it has been chewed on by ants and now this, if it survives it has to be great smoke....lol. The others all seem doing be doing well with a better update this afternoon.:blsmoke:

thanx im gettin ready to repot all of them soon they were showin roots today before i gave them there water... i had ants livin in my main pot but after i flushed her a couple weeks ago and sat her in a plate with standing water they left

I have had it this year, friggn ants got my Northern Light baby, it was just pushing out of the ground when the BASTARDS ate the root. Drowning the little bastards right now, I still have a few more seeds in the germination tray I hope that I can get a couple more to sprout. I have low ryder coming now.......can't wait for those to get here. The 4 bigger plants are doing great they have broken the 8 inch barrier yesterday. The side branches are coming out nicely, pictures on Saturday.:joint:

Well the babies are 5 weeks old today and I have a few pictures of them even though it is so windy I couldn't hold the laptop too still for the pics this time. They are 10 inches now and starting to fill out nicely on the bottom. They are growing presently at about an inch per day. I am showing pictures of the 4 biggest and I will take pictures of the runts tomorrow. I am just plain tired today from yardwork. They got a small drink of horse manure tea today, once a week they get fed now. I do have a problem with one it is becoming or has become a hermie, just my luck. I said my prayers for a male this go around so that I could get my seeds for next year and the old saying be careful what you wish for. I reckon in the future I will have to ask for a totally male plant. I need some seeds to further my breeding with the local weed grown in the mountains. I am not sure this is a good idea or not to let this one breed with my girls but I only have a few seeds left on my mountain strain and I need to ensure that I can keep the strain alive. Anyone have comments on this I would love to hear your opinion.
I have my lowryder coming in about two weeks but I will try and keep those bred within themselves until I can get a crop of seeds built up then I might expand the program a bit. Just running out of space and quality control now . Hope to hear from all of you reading the journal.:joint::mrgreen:

Well I guess I will make it official I have one male. The plant that had been looking like it was going to be a hermie is a full fledged male, part of me is happy I with any luck will have my seeds for next year to carry on. Update on the other plants today along with some pics. First in the group today is the plant grown from the good genetics. You can tell that it is not very happy with the weather conditions. This one that would be much happier in a growroom or greenhouse, I hope that she makes it to flower and I can cross her back to the male. I am trying to bring some of the good genetics with some of traits with the mountain background. I just love messing around and seeing what I come up with. Maybe one day I will get a really special mix. Well, that was totally off the subject, guess I should put the pipe away. The second plant with the little green props that once kept her standing is making good progress now, still slower growing but recoverying from her trauma nicely. The third plant is also runty. I blame most of the slow growth on planting against the moon. All my plants are within 7 days of each other with the sole difference planting on different moonphases.

Thanks Benny, oh yeah I found the male..........lol he is almost 15 inches tall now and is looking very healthy indeed, he has grown 5 inches in the last 3 days. So now out of the 4 bigger plants I have one male and one which is starting to show signs of preflower, she is standing 14 inches tall and also looking very healthy. The other two bigger plants are all at 14 inches with no signs of preflower yet. Today they get their midweek drink of super thrive. The 3 littlest ones are now 4 inches and two at 5 inches. The one at 5 inches is one of the store bought seeds that is finally finally showing signs of coming into her growth spurt. She has really had a hard time of things, her stem is almost healed from the ant attack and she is over her bout with the phosphorus lockout. I couldn't be happier about her health right now. MJ is an amazing plant with healing powers that continue to amaze me. The other thing that this planting is showing, which I did on purpose, is to show the difference in planting with the moon phases. I know that many people think the planting with the moon is just horse manure but for those here is the proof in this grow.
