you may possibly not even need that chiller if you run an aero timer for the pump. i was having res temp issues, around 74F. changed to my Sentinal DRT-1 Re-cycle timer and voila! temps @ 69 and holding with no chiller or ice water bottles or anything. i run 30 secs on and 10 off. gives em time to breathe. and i see explosive growth out of all of my aero designs. GO AEROPONICS!
and i know that 100bucks seems like alot to pay for a simple timer, yet it has a major influence on the system and adds another control variable to your system that you can dial down to get the perfect timing. all while using a quarter of the energy. =)

I posted this in another thread. I think that it is important to run a timer to really take advantage of this system. aero/nft hybrids are even more prone to root matting.

Thanks Aero. You're not the only one who suggested a timer. My prior grows were in a tub which afforded a lot of exposed root area that was NOT submerged.

Aero/NFT System seems to be working well with little or no modifications.....for ONCE! Other than replacing a crimped chiller line that was reducing water flow, everything else seems fine. The plants went straight from the cloner to the 12hr HPS.


Grow area- 44"x 39"
# of plants- 12
Strain-Bubblegum
Lighting- (2) 600's HPS currently. Will add (1) 400HPS in 1 week
RO water
Room temps- Between 65fah and 75 fah.
Nute Temp- Between 67fah and 70 fah.
PPM- Running around 550-600 at 14 days from out of cutting machine
PH- Between 5.6 and 5.8

Very observant although the color isn't exactly realistic. They're a little darker than they seem. Couldn't seem to get the white balance on the camera set properly. I go a little light on N since I go straight from clone to 12hr and want to reduce stretch.

I like your set up, I'm saving the pics for future reference cause that's the type of grow I wanted to do. The only thing I don't like is that cleaning the res looks to be a hassle. +rep

Thanks for the rep. Actually it isn't hard to clean at all. The rubber end caps of the 6" pvc can be removed by taking off the hose clamp to clean the inside. The pump is connected by unions which allow me to disconnect and remove the pump and piping in 2 minutes. The 6" pvc grow tubes are mounted above the rez and I can life them up and slide the rez out in 5 min.

Day 24 from clone and everything is doing well.

Thanks. Actually those are mystery plants. I gave some clones to a friend who couldn't keep track of his fingers if they weren't attached to his hand. 6mos later I get some back but he didn't keep track of what was what. I only grow Indica and I gave him some Hindu Kush, some Aroura Indica, and some bubblegum. What I got back is anybodys guess. I guess it's a good thing I gave him the clones in the first place or I might have gotten back males. my guess would be Bubblegum except 2 out of the 12 are slightly different. Time will tell.

All three good strains that I'd love to get my hands on, I've been doing ak47 outdoors the last few years and my strain is indica dominant, couch lock kind of stuff. I'd love to get my hands on pure indica but I don't think there is any pheno that is pure.

For those who haven't followed the thread these clones were about 8" tall on 3/7 when I went to 12/12

Running about 600PPM @5.7. Added BudBlood yesterday (wk 2 of flower). Did a little lollipopping ( I know....I have more than one main cola) last week.

Lots of buds showing. Plants are doing great. Thanks to those who are following.

Awesome system! I love the drains!! Those 6"x6"x4" t's are the ticket! I did a Stinkbud style system and ended up with algy growth from the drains......so back to the 'Turn-Key' GH's that by their own rights are kick ass-----you'll never be able to copy that spray set-up they have, huh Aeroking...... they just dont build them tough enough.......

Thanks for the rep growinman. I built a system with 4" plastic deck post covers and 11/2" drain holes which promptly got clogged with roots and the netpots began overflowing. My quick fix was to pull off the endcaps and let it drain in to a gutter. That's when the algae problems started cause I couldn't get the gutters light tight.


I like the sprayers outside though. When the clones are just beginning to root I actually have all the sprayheads resting IN the netpots and bypass 80% of the water right back to the rez. This, in effect, makes it work more like a dripper. Once the roots are through the pot and hanging in the PVC I pop the sprayers in and shut off the bypass.

Actually, did you check out the SOG Grow Op? He runs PVC up in the corners of pvc fencepost, pretty much the same as the aeroflo's "laser drilled spray line", except little sprayer heads are threaded in rather than tiny holes for the sprayers.

I've thought about it. I'm not sure which is more advantageous. The aeroflo has the benefit that you can aim the jet just right and cause both misting in the tube, and massive aeration of the nutrient film layer.
The spray heads seem to create a nicer mist, though.

But, yeah, I hate external spaghetti line spray plumbing.

Go to futuregarden.com and look for 360 pin sprayers. Drill a 7/16 hole, insert a gromet, screw the sprayer in. Put an inline filter ahead of them.

The roots never really affect the sprayers as they hang down directly below the netpot and the spray heads are between the pots.
