single cola plants?

 How exactly do you train a plant to grow/produce well as a single cola plant. I know that there are strains that tend to grow this way naturally, so the easiest answer is to select such a strain, however I would still like to know how to "train" a plant to grow/produce in single cola growth.

don't top it and cut lower branches off as it grows so all strength is focused on that cola. We used to call it spearing.

yea it works very well. some people manage to get 1-2oz off a plant grown at 12/12 from seed. Im doing it on my next grow. works best with sativa strains

It does work and well.. fast and solid with an ounce to an ounce and a half per plant... The trimming I spoke of is anything to low to keep air flow low since all the plants stay small.. Try it.... Have funn

Hey thanx for askin about this, nightshade, I am growing for the first time in a hydroponics setup called the aerogarden, anyway I have had to trim some dead fan leaves off one of my babies and it is lookin alot like a palm tree, but now I can implement this technique to hopefully get a nice cola off her(if she is a her, havent sexed yet just on day 5 of flowering)!

Peace and good luck with yours!

well, the idea is a small aeroponic SOG set up. Well, I have read that when a plant is put into 12/12 it is still chemically in the vegative stage for the first 5-7 days and around 7-9 the plant starts producing more flowering horomones and completes the cycle. SOOO, the idea is to take a few more clones during the 5th day of 12/12. I don't think it will cause to much stress and create hermies to put back into 24, do you? Anyway, I don't have room but for mininmal branching anyway, and thinking that I could possible achieve higher results using single cola, b/c my plants won't be over crowded then...just a thought. If I take clones from a selected mother and put them into 12/12 after just being rooted for about a week, so at about 8-12in high...I should be able to get a good single cola plant, much like growing straight into a 12/12 from seed?

well, i have a design in the works, but that is it...so maybe someday, I am just trying to figure out how practical or possible what I am thinking about doing is.

Yes, but a clone is a branch not a plant from seed so the diff. being the clone can branch off. I am growing off clones now and even before I topped on a few I had a couple of branches. This just means clipping off all but your main you want. gl

thats exactly correct i started some along time ago and went into 12 12 early and they came out spears. These new 2 that i now have turned into long neck bushes cuz i kept them in 24 hr for too long .

Well, I am glad to know that what I am thinking sounds logical to those that know the deal. Now a bit more detail. My flowering area is 22"x24" so just shy of 4 sq.ft. I have a max height of 2.5-3 ft. (perfectly fine for SOG). Using a vented 400w HPS, I have 100w per sq.ft which will really help with yeilds and bud formation...and aeroponics is supposed to produce big yields and super fast growth, so I figured that 6 plants in SOG (I know that some people put 8 plants per sq.ft. in SOG setups...am I being to conservative w/ space by only thinking 6 plants in 4 sq.ft.??) in that space should be sufficent to reach my 6oz goal....or is that kinda doubtful to have an ounce per 2.5ft plant in SOG???

I'm actually trying this single cola thing. I just finished cleaning up after last grow. I have 24 bagseeds germinated and sprouting. My thinking is that my 1000w 150,000 lumen hps is gonna be to intense for such a small plant to take as it has barely any roots. So, I got them on the window sill till they get there 4rth set of leaves. I figure by then root growth should be sufficient to support the plant under that much light and heat. Any thoughts on this?

Oh I snapped a few pics of the sprouts and if peoples don't mind I'll keep up to add the photos for this thread. The photos are of tupperware containers I germ in and they have 4 each divided by thin plastic deviders for easy transplanting.

One more thing. With single cola plants. Would it be benificial i.e. greater yeild if I stretched these things a couple ft before flowering. Just maintain trimming of branch grow to one main cola right. So theoretically you could have a single cola that's 5 or 6 ft. in not to long, right? I'll try both so we can all see the benefits. Unless someone knows of any reason not to do a main cola that high other than need for weight support.

Thanks ya'll I'll keep us posted.

All 24 have sprouted and 12 have been put in there permenant homes. All have been put under the hps at 12/12. growth has started to increase greatly. So far only one cola growing. Some at 2 and a half inches already.

In the wild seeds sprout under sunlight...
Some folks clone under 1000w hps's, so you can certainly sprout seeds under one, all you have to do is back the light off to start and as they mature move it down. Another trick is using a light mover, then you don't even need to back off on the light.
