How Do I Grow Opium?

Ok so right now I'm really interested in growing opium poppies. I heard that McCormick brand poppy seeds are actually the right breed of seeds but would that actually grow if I planted them??? Also, I need to know what kind of lighting I would need... mine isn't the greatest, unless four 4' 40 watt fluoros would work.

So... yeah where can I get the opium poppy seeds and what kind of lighting do I need? thanks for any help that I get...

google "Papaver somniferum". Buy seeds, plant seeds *btw you may need more area than you think, poppies spread like wild fire*, cut the pods (after the flowers fall off), scrape off the latex-like-gel. Consume.

It's more slightly complex, but this is a breakdown.

Btw grow them outside, or in a windowsill.. you can't tell opium poppies from regular poppies by looking at them (atleast I can't, nor can most people tell you what a poppy looks like). So you're safe to grow them outside.

Poppy's are pretty easy to grow. But dont expect any opium. You will get "latex" (google it) but latex isnt opium. It takes A LOT of latex to make opium. 1 acre of plants only produces 1000 grams of opium. Thats about .022 grams per square foot of poppys.

holy shit is that right? I had no idea the yield is that low. What worked for me (granted a very slight buzz) was to take the latex, drop a couple drops of water on it (to get a liquid-ish substance) and smeared it all over rolling paper and then had tobacco.

Ok well I know that when you cut the pods the opium drips down the pod... and one drop is more than .022 grams. And btw a coupld kilos of opium for an acre is a lot more than .022 grams per sq. ft... thats kind of a lot of opium lol.

So uh... please source things like that cuz I really dont know what to think.

Opium poppies contain 12% morphine, they also contain vaious amounts of codeine, papervine, thebaine, and noscapine... so it's gotta be more than .022 grams man.

I mean, 100g of latexy shit is 12g of morphine.

Yeah so besides that... what kind of lighting do I need to grow them? Can I just use my fluoros and cfls? I dont get much light in my windows.

What drips out is "latex" not opium.

Opium is the concentrated form of the "latex." Its like hash is to bud.



Ooh and cfl's/floros work just fine. Just gotta make sure you got enuf of em. Similar to pot.

dude opium is the latex that comes out of the pod... the "latex" as you call it then goes on to be further refined into morphine then you make heroin from the morphine or you can extract the codeine or whatever it is that your trying to get out of it, hey hobo who told you that you extract opium from "latex"?

But anyway... I'm guessing that in a 4 x 1 ft space I can grow about 50 poppies. I should be able to get a little bit out of that right? Like a few smokes?

i am talking about the smoking type you take the latex and let it dry thats your "rocks" you speak of, if you had 50 you could get an alright amount, idk if you have any experience with growing but if you know anything about hydro that would be the way to go, because it will keep producing for you when a pod is done you cut it off and a new one grows ive heard that it can go on for up to 6 months so figure if you had 50 growing hydroponically you couldharvest some opium everyday and smoke everyday or just save up which if i was to do it that would be the way id go, if your interested theres a website or forumn actually that specialzes in poppie cultivation a few members on there grew some hydroponically, you have to search the archives, the infos there you just have to dig

first try in hydro killed them to grow weed second try they turned purple and died after a month in dirt, yes yeild is low but it is a good experment (takes about as long as weed start to finsh)

Yeah actually I started growing some plants for my first time about a week ago... it smells sweet and piney and I think its Trainwreck.

I dont have much experience but I cant set up hydro or anything right now...

I am still tryin to get one answer though... will McCormick brand poppy seeds from the grocery store grow??? Because they are opium poppies, I know that much at least.

your an ass, have you tried it? to awnser your ? hooker yes yes they do germinate sprout and grow whoever came up with some bullcrap about being "treated" is horse shit, ill give those seeds a germination rate of 90% and i would say thats a low number to throw out there figure at $3 for 1000 seeds isnt bad to just throw away its just $3 not $20, also bikeskill what did you do wrong when you tried hydro with them? did you have ferts for your water? what was your watering schedule? what type of hydro system did you go with? did you use at least a fluro for the plant? to say you didnt have much sucess is to say that when you atempted you just hopped into the shit and didnt do much research on how to grow the weed at hand

Don't bother with the scrapping. Just let the flower mature, then cut it down a few inches from the flower. Dry it, then crush it all up, put it in pretty hot watter for an hour, strain, then let the water evaporate until you are left with the black stickyness of goodness. Slather this on your J's or blunts, thai sticks anyone?

If the seeds are the proper strain, yes they will grow fine. I would plant outside if you can, they grow quick, and spread too if you let them go to seed. All you have to so is prepare the soil, sprinkle the seeds, sprinkle a small amount of peat on top, and conmtinue to water as needed. They are wild flowers and require very little care.

You can also just use a few heads of the flower pod, boil it up, and you have some great opium tea. Be careful with the dose as it can wipe you out pretty fast. And remember, it is very addictive!

Pothead thanks for that reply... it pisses me off when I get "fer sher" answers from people who have no idea what they are talkin about. I heard it works I just wanted to make sure before I spend $3 instead of like $30 which is how much some sites try to sell Papaver S. seeds for.

And mannurse thanks for the warning lol... I have never tried opium and I dont plan to make enough to get addicted to with 50 flowers, but lately I've felt like experimenting with stuff and I dont like buying stuff like opium off the street. Weed is fine to buy but opium is harder to find and who knows what your paying for...

Think Imma go to safeway now and buy some poppy seeds for uh... some freshly baked poppy-seed muffins.
