old school skunk

i'v been looking for that old school skunk that I remember from my teenage years. I have some super skunk plants but it's not the same. I just got a skunk#1 clone and hope this is the one. anyone know where to get the true skunk?

It Probably isn't it but can't hurt to try there's a big rks thread on here already as well bud proly worth a look

I'm working on this as we speak. I have a acrap ton of seeds that were frozen in 1989 an stayed in the deep freezer, in film canisters packed 100 to a canister with cotton wadding, taped with electrical tape and 5 canisters to each foodsaver bag. Grandpa was a farmer and not only did he enjoy vegetables in central IL. . .He did this with all of his heirloom seeds as well and had a deep freezer in the barn where he kept everything. My uncle used to chief on this stuff all the time and the first time he smoked it around my grandfather (who LOVED panama red and Thai stick), my grandfather decided they needed to to keep that one around. I was a kid back then but i remember them cutting the plants and sitting on the back porch with album covers separating seeds for a couple of days. I didn't know what they were doing but my uncle always had that bud up until my grandfather died. He moved to cincinatti and took all the seeds with him where they wound up in his deep freezer in the basement that he completely forgot about until one day it stopped running. He knows I cultivate so he hit me up and now they're in my deep freezer with me experimenting trying to get some fresh batches. There is more too it than that nut I'm trying to keep it short as possible. I'm mecahnically separating shells, germinating in sterile agar with biochar extract under a flow hood to avoid contamination as I know that the genetics are thought to be extinct. I know of a fella a couple towns over that still has it and he has been running clone mothers from the original mother for 30 plus years and hes where all the old school smokers go to get theirs becasue he has it and of course, he's stingy and won't come off so much as a seed, let alone a clone. Anyhoo. I've still got a year or so of work to do before I'm comfortable in saying that it is revived, but I am keeping the loop open while progress happens.

I'm not popping them until after I recover from double hernia surgery in 2 weeks. It's called pressure skunk, and I'll let @TheOriginalDankmaster take over the description.

Same as his cripxmas, and all his crippy crosses. Reviews are like nothing I have ever seen, from sources that I've known for quite some time. I've been toking since 1994. So if this strain takes me back, you guys and gals will be the first to know.

Skunk is just a vague name that was usualy used to refer to hybrids. A description and time period may help as too many people are on about completly diffrent things wen talking about skunk.
The old super skunk was rank too, its was one of the original parents used to make the sour and desil lines and not something easily found any more as it was last made in about 1993.

We started smoking and growing skunk in the 1980's in Citrus and Levy County. Make no mistake, the weed smelled like a skunk. It was thick and stuck to your clothes, nose hairs, and all the cilia everywhere. Skunk. Just like you smell when the dog got sprayed by the skunk animal. It did not smell like any burnt stuff, or industrial chemicals, or cleaners. It smelled like a fucking skunk. Almost exact. Almost. The animal skunk is stronger. That is the only difference.

The primary stinky compounds are thiols and thioacetates, rich in sulfur. Sulfur atoms in thiols and thioacetates also have a lot of stability in the way they bond to other atoms, which is part of the reason the smell is hard to get rid of. during mating season.

The first illustration is of skunk weed smell chemical structures. Notice the thios, sulfides, and disulfide

I didnt say it dont. But the term skunk originaly came in the 60s and 70s and just refered to some of the first indica sativa hybrids they made in the illegal era. I know of a number of strains that were refered to as skunk.
Ive also seen it triggered in certain plants from seedlines in the last 10 years too.
Oh, were have you got that skunk weed analysis from, ie wat strain and is that taken at the point its already been dried and cured ? Thanks

I wasn't trying to be snippy brother! There is a guy who sits in a chair with a prove me wrong sign. It's meme related!

The information I have is from a study that was conducted by using Gas Chromatography Mass Spectroscopy to understand where that smell comes from. Breeders were under the impression it was completely from Terpenes. The analytical word discovered the Volatile Sulfur Compounds. These were all subsequently separated and resolved with human noses. The Terpenes had close to zero skunk smell while the VSC's were chosen to most closely represent the skunk smell in comparison to the animal skunk chemicals that were separated and tested.

It's amazing what plants can do. The plant world is phenomenal and we get to share our life with them.

Some of the more modern strains that were tested for skunk smell included Bacio Gelato and Clone Guy OG, and there were others like Area 51 and Gushers, oh and also Gelato!

I will look and see if I have any analytical information on Skunk #1 and some of the earlier strains.

This morning was the first time in my life that I realized I am a true OG. Smh have a nice day brother!

Y’all deadass in here growing skunk like this is 1992 with all the fire strains out y’all keep wasting money on people selling y’all stories over and over again

the “RKS” search is one of the worst things to happen to the community it kinda pains me to see so many people start off enthusiastic only to grow some skunk realize they have wasted there time and money .. I believe in its day skunk 1 was like how sour hit us in 02 .. so I understand the fascination

people keep saying that skunk was so rank yea compared to the strains of 92 .. everything was low odor u might have had outliers but for the most part only Afghans would be considered stinky ..then people keep saying how potent it was .. it was a different high compared to the haze and its hybrids but skunk ain’t never test higher than 12-15 percent so people saying skunk is stronger than something like mac1 is deff just nostalgic

no offense but look at the dude a few posts up with that “30 year old” seed story it’s the same kind of stories u legit can find a person coming out the woodworks with the magical mythical skunk and it’s always some weird ass stoner feel good story and how there saving the lost gene pool and it’s only gonna cost u (50-300)$ a pack and u have to go thru atleast 3 packs to find it .. and they can’t say much till they get the Ok from MI6

Excuse me if I came off harsh I’m not gonna argue I just wanted to say that bc as a community most stoners are chill people so people might not say what they want to not to cause friction it needs to be said tho

Too many people are not in the know and are maybe just getting into growing so they should have 100% disclosure about the stuff they might grow or buy especially if it’s not what the description says like 95% of skunk seeds for sale
