I think since recharging stations pumping a lot of kilowatts into EVs will need some kind of protection from the rain, that anything solar panel covered should also be used for shelter from the elements. Most gas stations have such shelters from the elements already and recharging an EV with hundreds of volts could be dangerous in the pouring rain. These solar trees don't provide shade or shelter and appear expensive to construct.

Pump itself has an atm, so no need to go inside anymore, but the buildings are still there. I saw it as a speech at the RNC. Maybe it's not so great a stand-in.

edit: It is a very good word. It goads masterfully, and is resistant to taunt beyond grade school recess.

It rains a lot in northern Europe and charging at 300 volts DC or more is not something I would want to do in a rainstorm without some protection from the elements. Those tree things might be ok in Dubai, but it rains and snows in northern climates and fast charging in minutes will be a challenge in warm dry weather much less in the rain.

Looks like yer way ahead of other European countries in charging stations and here in NA we are still in the stone age! I suppose being a low country that sea level rises will pretty well wipe you out so there is a strong incentive to go green.

Florida and a lot of southern US states including Texas are in the same boat, but not as proactive and oppose this climate change stuff, even though it will benefit them economically. It is just more "woke" stuff to the right wingnuts, but they are just conned morons who can't even define what woke means and are easily fooled into becoming useful idiots.

I seem to recall that Japan's little oopsie had a great effect on Germany's stance on nuclear. Germany jumped on gas, the best option of the hydrocarbons, would have been no problem until Putin upset the apple cart. What are we going to do to stop developing countries from bringing their citizens into the 20th century? What right do we have to tell them? Better yet, what have you done to reduce your carbon footprint? What has your neighbor done? If we all just go around as business as usual we are all to blame.

I dunno if we can arrest global warming without some geoengineering like using space born mirrors to shade to poles temporarily, but we had better fucking try! Solar is the cheapest form of power generation now followed by wind turbines and storage technologies are required to harness it at grid and domestic scales. Both solar and battery storage are about to get much cheaper and more feasible over the next decade and the governments in North America want most cars sold to be EVs in less than 10 years and we are lagging behind the EU and China. I don't have much faith in carbon capture technologies, but I'm no expert in the field, just an observer. This thread is about policy and the information required to make it, at least from my perspective, people can protest to bring attention to the issue, especially younger people who will spend more time in the future Hellscape we are creating than me. However, we need workable alternatives and there appear to be some, whether they are too little too late remains to be seen but we have to try.

Most poor countries are tropical and solar works quite well there and should be cheap enough for them to afford, but like us their problem is battery storage for renewables and hopefully the EV revolution will help with that issue as the battery factories continue to go up.

Rainstorms around here are like comfy showers compared to many other places like US and Australia. But that aside, the roofs are actually to ‘protect’ the customers against the rain, not because there’s any danger in fast charging in the rain. Though frankly… maybe another good reason not to buy a chinese ev.

Those are just the ones from FastNed, a small portion of all fast charge stations here. But yes, 30% of all chargers in EU are in NL and 20% in Germany.

Not quite in the same boat as Florida or places that are at risk of flooding from sea level rise. Average elevation is 30m, most of the coast is protected by up to 51m natural dunes, a quarter of NL already is below sea level, only country with a third branch of government specifically for water management. Main difference with other countries at risk is that we‘ve been operating on the assumption we can and will be flooded long before major climate change in recent times. Technically, there’s only about 65miles of additional barriers needed, which does not compare to for example Florida or Texas.

The high risk and cost effectively means the probability is extremely small. The risk of NL flooding is no concern or factor for anyone embracing EVs. The misery on a global scale however…

A common argument from the irrational side of the spectrum, far right.

Instead, how can one small country exercise influence on the rest if it doesn’t set a good example itself first. It would be like complaining about a neighbor’s trashy garden while using your own backyard as a garbage dump, i.e. hypocritical.

Plus, we’ve been brainwashed by a government commercial in the 90s, “a better environment starts with yourself”. Every little bit helps.

Entirely agree with your comment about Germany but then the circumstances changed and they have learned it was a dumb move that cost them more than they were trying to save. Instead of aiming for 100% renewables in 2050 they moved it to 2035. Germany is definitely not the one not playing ball.

You’re giving too much credit to Greenpeace and way too little to the anti-nuclear movement in Germany that led to their Green Party as well as the catastrophes in Chernobyl and Fukushima. NL will build two new ones before 2035 and despite my donations to greenpeace I do not oppose.
