2 liters usually for east coast, hardly ever need more. You get so used to the wealth of water, take it for granted.I carry a lot of water. Growing up around here, I am used to arid exposed hiking with few to no water sources along the way. I’m fairly comfortable carrying 3-5 liters at a time, depending on circumstances. I could probably do more if there was a particularly long stretch without water, but it would start to get uncomfortable.
It's nice to find stone lined springholes, similar to this, left over from trail crews, early settlements or bored hikers.
