magnesium deficiency diagnosis ( 1 week update )

I don't think it's MG because it should start at lowest leaves been highly mobile and by the time it creeps up thise lowers should look like shit, plus you've foliar fed without improvement.

I don't think it's iron because that typically works it's way outward from the stem of the leaf.

I'd say its highly likely that switching it from 24h of light down to 20h max and having a dark period will see a halt in it getting worse and what looks like MG will correct itself .

But I am prone to seeing slow light burn and light stress.
Looks like a combination of deficiencies now. This was a week+ ago I found after I went through half this thread. The Mg deficiency seems pretty obvious at this point. But shit was still getting worse.

Note in that picture and his other pictures that the lower leaves are in better condition than the higher leaves closer to the light.
That shouldn't be the case if it's a genuine magnesium deficiency.

I switched to 18/6 when I fed foliar last week.

Lots of reviews from users of Coast of Maine. It contains the shellfish , micros and Mag. As well as all the others .Many complain of lack of drainage and are adding 30 percent perlite. As @Budzbuddha explains earlier overfeeding super soil can create excesses or imbalances.Excess Phosphorus can cause zinc ,iron and magnesium deficiency.

Did I miss the 3.9 ph explanation?
Isn't Calcium antagonistic to Mg? Too much Ca?
I never got an explanation either and I asked a few times,

And Ca is antagonist to Mg and K, but since he's not adding any extra I'm thinking it's mainly a deficiency of a few things. Mg was one of the first to show up. One of my first thoughts when I saw those was that it could be excess Ca too, but it doesn't sound like it now. Lot of people have issues due to too much Ca though for sure. I have to be careful myself with it.

More details would certainly help. :bigjoint:

Ya, I mean 3.9, whoa. I was thinking maybe the shellfish has calcium but you wouldn't think they'd put too much in

I believe the 3.9 was his nutrient solution. Most of the reviews of successful grows use perlite and tap water only .It's mucky and over watered with nutes, .Locked out.

I see. I never measured pH of a nutrient solution. That's a question I never thought of. Yeah I think mucky could do that.

It started looking like that before he added salts though. That pic I posted was from before he added that I'm pretty sure. I don't know. It would've been simpler if he kept it in the same thread though instead of starting a whole new one.

Just chiming in here cause it seems like no consensus has been made.

I can tell you in one sentence what’s wrong with the op plants.

rich soil doesn’t need nutes or phing andIt’s obviously on the edge of overfeeding and lockout/ nuts burn, plusdistilled water on top of that recipe for distaster, phew one Runon sentence.

just water tap drinkable water. I would honestly try to get your soil working for you againwith compost tea or microbial supliment.

C'mon man. He wanted us all to agree on what's wrong..

Look at his biggest older leaves. You can see it there too.

microbial sup recommendation?

Micronutrients are different than microbes, but you want both with organics. The beauty of EWC is it has both. So does the soil you're using. So if you have extra soil I'd add that now to start.

If you want to use distilled and salts I'd just get some extra micronutrients in salt or Hydro form. But it sounds like you're not trying to go that route. I don't know.

I would've given it a top dressing a couple weeks ago or so but you still could now. That soil needed a supplement awhile ago, especially since you've been using distilled. You have fish and kelp coming now so you could use that too for now, but I'd also get another dry mix too. I'm lazy so I don't like to have to do much more than add water.

You still haven't answered the question about the 3.9 pH thing. And are you adjusting the pH with anything?

Okay understood, the 3.9 ph was the ph of the soil after a slurry test.

I thought you said the pH in those pots were in the 6's. What did you do to that soil to get it to read 3.9? o_O
