I, for one, refuse to drink Obama's Kool-Aid

I'll never vote for anyone who thinks marijuana should remain illegal for recreational purposes. That has less to do with my love of pot and more to do with my hatred of corrupt liars in office.

Anyone who is high up in politics and power and thinks that cannabis should remain illegal is corrupt. Sure, there are plenty of ignorant people who buy the propaganda of the DEA and the "Partnership for a Drug Free America". But anyone involved in national power and politics who still thinks marijuana should be illegal is corrupt. Period. End of fucking story.

All these promises Obama has made are bullshit, as we'll come to see in the years ahead. Obama came making promises of change and hope, but if he is willing to lie to us for money, votes, and power... then he fundamentally is quite the same as the President he is replacing. And if you still think he hasn't lied to us, read on.

During the primary campaign, he promised to take public campaign financing (with its spending limits). He even signed a statement to that effect. How much stronger of a promise can you make? Yet just a few months later, when faced with a pile of money if he'd only break his promise, and having won all the votes in the primaries that he needed from that promise, he went back on his word. His excuse was that the "system is broken" (as if the decades old system wasn't broken a few months earlier when he made his promise). In another example, Obama said he could never disown his fiery, black pastor and spiritual mentor, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright. That particular promise came when he was fighting the Clintons for the black vote during the Democratic primaries. Then, just a few short months later, when facing McCain for the white vote, Obama condemned Wright and announced he was leaving his church family.

This is the man of principle and we're supposed to hope in to bring change from "politics as usual"? Why should we believe a word this man says when, just like Bush, he is willing to lie to us for money, votes, and power? Again, anyone who is high up in politics and power and thinks that cannabis should remain illegal is corrupt. Period.

Let me know when Barack Obama gets the last of our boys and girls out of Iraq, or does what it takes to catch Bin Laden, or reigns in federal spending, or ends our need of foreign oil within 10 years (yes, he promised that), or stops the DEA from enforcing prohibition era hemp laws against state medical cannabis patients (he promised that too... very early in his campaign, when he needed all the "grass"roots support he could get). Let me know when these things happen, and I guess I'll eat crow. But what we're more likely to see is just further payouts going into the hands of the powerful banks and corporate entities that control the wealth in *both* major political parties. Besides that, very little is going to change.

One promise we know he'll fulfill is that tax break for most Americans. As with Bush's "stimulus checks", he knows he has to pay us off to get re-elected in 4 years. But we won't see much substantial change besides that, and until we stop electing liars to the most important office in the land, we probably never will.

D, I vote because I am not being led, I am being represented. They just need some serious reminding is all. Start by voting OUT incumbents.

jsn, this came as no surprise to anyone who bothered to pay some attention before this election. Now many of my friends who voted for Obama are upset because, as it turns out, he may not actually be getting us out of war in the Middle East. He didn't ever actually say he was going to do this, just shift some troops around (and then there's that nifty increase in ground troops, but don't you pay attention to that). But now it appears that he's playing the same ball game that most all play.

Change comes in coin form.

What I remember is all troops out of Iraq in 16 months. Turns out that's pretty much the deal that the Iraqi government (such as it is) worked out with Bush (while McCain was promising to stay there 100 years).

If people are going to get pissed at him for "finessing" on his promises, then let's at least be clear about what he actually promised: what he said, not what you thought you heard.

Jesus Christ can the guy at least have 1 day in office before you flame him
Short answer, of course not!

Ah, but therein lies the rub. He's an attorney first, a politician second. I read very closely what he's had to say, and much of it was word-dancing and allowed him exactly the kind of leeway that leads to the types of misunderstandings and disappointments that I see happening now. For this reason alone I cannot recommend highly enough taking a course in semantics.

Here is Osama at an early age....

Any asshole who will put me in jail for lighting up recreationally will not get one day in office without me flaming him, especially after running a campaign involving one lie and sellout after another.

This is the guy that said on national TV that his greatest moral failure was smoking weed and drinking beer. Gimmee a fucking break. The guy is a liar who will put you in a cage as long as it helps him keep power.

I felt his biggest moral failure was his inability to comprehend the term "decriminalization" as an attorney, law professor and U.S. senator. That really put a bug up my ass right there. :)

I've yet to see any President that wouldn't. It's hard to understand someone that judges a president on just one issue, "Weed". I think there are a few more important issues out there, like war, the economy, The environment, repealingh the Bush laws of attack on our personal freedom etc. I would vote for decriminalization, but don't really give it that urgency. Why you ask? Well, if one uses his "Brain", it is almost as good as legal. here's the rules:
1. don't smoke in a public place.
2. don't buy or sell to strangers.
3. Don't drive stoned or carry large amounts.
4. pick a state like California if possible to live in.
Just these simple rules will in all probability keep you un-arrested for years. As for growing your own, good Idea, heres the basic rules:
1.Don't tell anyone, no matter how sweet or potent the buds.
2.watch the light bill. Getting greedy, (Trying to grow enough to live on) may point your grow op out to power co. employees who are offered incentives to turn gro-ops in.
3. maintain odor control.
4. Of course, do not grow where it can be seen, except in CA where you can post a copy of your grow license.
By following these simple rules, one can live a pretty Paranoid free life and have all the pot he wants, just saying.

I counted at least five factual errors in the first post. One or two I can correct, but once you break five, it's clear getting the facts straight isn't a high priority.

As for the campaign financing, I thought this was good:

I see no problem thus far, semantic or otherwise.

Gates: Military Looks To Accelerate Iraq Pullout, Shut Down Guantanamo

WASHINGTON — Defense Secretary Robert Gates signaled a willingness to forge ahead with two key priorities for the incoming Obama administration: accelerating the U.S. withdrawal from Iraq and shutting down the Guantanamo Bay detention center.

As the only Republican Cabinet member asked to stay on by President-elect Barack Obama, Gates told reporters Tuesday that military commanders are looking at ways to more quickly pull troops out of Iraq in light of the 16-month timetable that was a centerpiece of the Democrat's campaign.

He also said it will be a high priority to work with the new Congress on legislation that will enable the U.S. to close the detention center at the U.S. naval base in Cuba, where about 250 terrorism suspects are still being held.

I hear ya. However, at the same time this may be form over substance. If all he does is move the detainees, but only gives them the same sham (fake) trials Bush has been giving them... then we're still holding people indefinitely essentially without trial. And given that many of these guys were apprehended by corrupt police forces of other nations... quite a few are likely innocent.

I see no problem thus far, semantic or otherwise.

I didn't say I judge just one issue. Read my first line again. I said, " This has less to do with my love of pot and more to do with my hatred of corrupt liars in office." The fact that an educated person in a powerful office in this country supports criminal penalties for hemp/cannabis, etc. shows him to be *corrupt*. The problem is the *corruption*, not the weed.

I have no reason to trust a corrupt person when he tells me all his solutions to the war, economy, environment, personal freedom, etc. He is *corrupt*. He is a liar. He is not to be trusted.

Not everyone who gets busted has it happen because they are stupid. Some of the most careful people have been busted... luck of the draw. Tell the black guy who got busted and jailed for months or years b/c he was pulled in a racial profiling op and had the dogs tear his car apart that weed is "almost legal." Or are you so smart that you never have had weed in your car? The problem in this country is people who vote for corrupt politicians, satisfied that weed is "almost legal" because, after all, "I'm not the one languishing in prison."

Screw that, it's my money, and I'm keeping it, the government didn't (and still doesn't) have my permission to take it in the first place, at least not with out the threat of throwing me in prison and stripping me of property and in general making my life a living Hell.

Most of us tokers here are fairly open minded people, interested in the world around us and willing to learn. If getting facts straight is such a high priority of yours, why don't you share your knowledge with us and actually point out what my "5 factual errors" are? Oh... I see, it is because you only step down to talk to people who have a maximum of two factual errors in their post. Okay.

To me, at least, it seems you either are: (a) completely self-centered (unwilling to share your advanced understanding of the world with those around you since you are way too far above them), or (b) you actually have so little knowledge about the facts that you must resort to completely unrelated statements about my "priorities".

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say it is (a). And in that case, I beg you, please point out my errors to me so one day I can be as smart as you. By the way... Is this you in this video?
