An update no-one wanted: the HiDive mobile app, PadOS incarnation.

First things first, the app doesn’t *LOOK* badly designed when you open it….

most obvious shortcomings:
- video controls are: play, and pause…and one of those hard-to-grab gadgets that will let you drag the playback head (no skipping intros, no FF or RW, no ‘next episode’); video playback screen controls have tiny ‘hit boxes’, so….

- There is no LIST of contents: you can look at categories and at genres, but unless you look at ALL OF THEM, you still don’t know what they have.

- the queue / watchlist is FULL of holes: add things to it, come back & they‘re (mostly) gone. Adding a thing multiple times does NOT guarantee it will ever stick - and every time you go back to it, there will be both more *and* less than the time before.

- app is unstable, meaning it quits / acts up at random. Not enough to be a problem by itself, but more than enough to be annoying

- UI is unattractive, hard to read, (IMO) clumsy; user utility seems not to’ve been part of the design process.

All-in-all, it feels like a first-year group programming project; it hits certain marks for performance, but it is unfinished both in design and in execution. As a graded project for “Coding is EASY!!!”, it passes (C+]; however, as a delivered product, it is a poor harbinger of a company’s performance or of customer satisfaction.

My thoughts on this are based on 20 years as a programmer, analyst, designer, and alpha/beta-tester for hardware and software (plus 20 years before that as a retail buyer/manager focused on *customers*), during which time. Final evaluation based entirely on MY user experience.

OTOH…not much alternative (I *have NOT* evaluated their website streaming).

HD has a 14-day trial, which is enough time to decide if you’re over it or not, and $5/mo, which is reasonable for such an limited & dated collection overall. Shows watched so far (at least in part) include Tada Never Falls in Love (some), Vermiel in Gold (available episodes), & episodes from here & there.

COLLECTION: given that HD has teamed up to some extent w/ Sendai, and seems to want to position itself as THE SOURCE for ‘mature subjects’ (tits, almost exclusively), the bulk of the catalog strikes me as DATED: there are some old shows that just aren’t anywhere else at the moment, but no treasures; the new stuff going forward is one thing, but the weakness of HD’s catalog was pretty clear while it was connected to VRV…and frankly, they should have STAYED w/ VRV - the app is a few dozen times better.

Happy Sunday, y’all!

I completely missed this: detailed control & user-enabling features

To illustrate this, I’m going to describe some features w/ the CR app. Virtually any thumbnail for any show or episode is available to press-and-hold, which pops up to allow direct access to the show, to the show page, add / remove from watchlist, and other situational niceties. This is not *extreme*, this is making use of well-known mobileOS capabilities, *not* new crap to pile on old crap in a lowest-bidder project; these are available to programmers by the simplest means program designers have been able to devise. They simply need to be incorporated, not rewritten, for the user to gain the benefit.

Touch access permit a lot of flexibility for user, client, and developer, and its just ONE feature you might not just stumble upon.

Controls are fundamental to any UI (fuck, I’ve dropped into the mode…) accessibility is key. Not every trick can be layered with every other trick, and design choices (code-wise) really come into play here. When there are built-in transport controls for video IN THE OS, *NOT* SHOWING THEM to the user is a design choice.

The HiDive app is full of those sorts of design choices. This thing screams “contractual obligation fulfiled”, and those involved in the project will never be headhunted on the basis of their work on it.

Does it work? Can you select a thing to watch and watch it?
Yes and yes. Whether it will be as annoying to someone else as it is to me is an open question; it can be accommodated, if you’re willing. It really stacks up badly against the CR app…to say absolutely NOTHING about streaming apps from Disney, for example (my baby bro is the honcho @ Disney streaming, so, proud)

Well Tokyo Ghoul is one of my favorites it's in my top 10 probably in my top five and I thoroughly enjoyed the first season of gods of high school :hump: :peace:
i kinda figured you would like those.....Ghoul is real good, hell of a story, and the action is also good. Gods of High School, it was the last couple of episodes to the end that got me......that ending was epic....
