Most of the driving wheels in Big Church are not, in fact, believers, but manipulators, sheep shearers. I began learning this at 15, when various ‘pastors’ & ‘ministers’ began grooming me for the ministry….

I was a junior counselor at a fundamentalist summer camp that year. I don’t know if I’d caught anyone’s attention before that…but one night, it was my turn to do evening devotion for my cabin (every cabin did evening Bible-study/prayer/whatever, SOP). All I remember about it now, is that I picked a passage from Isaiah (open the book at random & searched the page, found a thing). I read the passage & started talking about it.

I have no idea how long I talked, but the cabin was silent. Eventually I ran out of things to say, and I had to pee something fierce, so I ended with a short prayer & stepped outside to hit the latrine. Outside the cabin, there were 20? 50? gathered around it - a lot of people, sitting on the ground; turned out, after the other cabins finished theirs, I was still going, and they could hear me & came to listen. All silent as I walked out, still silent when I came back. Freaked me out.

After that, my interactions with the church folks who ran the camp changed significantly. That’s when I remember the grooming beginning…and when I began to notice that these people had a very different take on church, Jesus, and the rest of it. Nothing overt, but their thru-line was off-key or something from my every (frequent) interaction with such folks.

Spent years mulling over what that meant, & correlating with old memories & new experiences. It took me A LONG TIME to realize that churches are run by salesmen more focused on driving attendance, new members, and the bottom line than on the product they were selling - or the people they were selling it to.

That cleared things up for me rather suddenly - in much the same way that I discovered that the republicans weren’t ignorant, or foolish, or trapped in old ways & beliefs: they were doing it all on purpose. I had totally believed for a long time that they ‘just didn’t understand’, but I was wrong. They understood what they were doing, and why they were doing it, and they were hiding it. Again, there were/are ‘true believers’, but they weren’t running the party, the movement, or the show: they had a plan; it was all deliberate, and not done in ignorance or old ways of thinking. Hiding in plain sight.

With a Special Master there's a shot he could win- Trumps brain is single cell; he looks to just live another day.
only if the special master is a complete and total trump supporter...if anyone takes the jobs and actually does it fairly and impartially, trump would still be just as fucked as he is right now...all a special master could do is stop anyone from seeing things that might be sensitive to trump personally, in his role as president...they wouldn't stop ANYONE in authority from seeing every stolen file, ever secret, compartmentailzed, highly classified document...it's a stupid, pointless, time wasting effort on trumps part...anything to give him a minute to get his shit together...but it ain't gonna help the traitorous piece of shit this time.

Strict constructionism correlates tightly with infallible-Bible.
And both of them correlate to obedience training, crowd control, and ‘status in the community’ - and, of course, a tax-free income stream…and yeah, that “inerrant Bible” is some amazing magical-thinking bullshit, entirely separate & distinct from anything said book actually says. Obedience training. Crowd control. Opinion management.

In that case you have some years on me. I was born the month Shepard flew.
I remember that day. At recess, the teacher had a transistor radio, and she was listening to Walter Cronkite doing special coverage of the flight. I stayed right next to her the whole time, catching every word (it was already my intent to become an astronaut). What a day….

Ditto w/ Joh n Glenn when he went up for orbits

Nice - but you misspelled brainwashed…
not only is the leadership a bunch of crooks and con men, 90% of the parishioners aren't anything like christians...they're looking out for each other, but let a black family, or an asian family, or a latino family try to join their church, or even move into their neighborhood...and you'll see just how christian they are.
i live among southern baptists...there are a shitload of churches in the medium sized county i live in, and as far as i'm aware, there is one kingdom hall, 2 catholic churches, one lutheran church, and close to 100 baptist churches...
https://www.churchfinder.com/churches/tn/sevierville
and im here to tell you that 90% of them are fucking hypocrites...i don't have a problem with people swinging, if that's what they're into, or binge drinking, if that's what it takes for you to forgt how shitty your life is, but don't do it then condemn others for doing what you're guilty of as well. don't pretend you live a christian lifestyle, and act superior about it, when you like to fuck the neighbors wife wearing a nuns habit while he videotapes it and posts it on only friends...don't condemn homosexuality then get caught trying to bugger underage boys at your own church...
one of the major suggestions that christianity makes is "Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye."
seems like just about the best advice in the entire book of fairy tales to me.

They're not believers, they're in it mostly for the $$$$$$ and power.....

i got into the church or should i say "organized religion" at an early age....in fact my adopted father his mother and father that were alive at the time were in fact evangelical, as through the ages i've been in Baptist, Lutheran, Catholic....etc etc...all saying the same thing....wasn't till i went to college and took a course " compare and contrast of religion" that really kinda sent things straight for me......looking at the bible, the torah, and the Koran, and comparing/contrasting them......finally figure out the story they're trying to send isn't complete......they all had gaps or they were missing something

No where in these books say you have to go to a building to see a man and give them money, or align yourself with a party.....religion in itself had been perversed at this moment and it had injected itself inside the political arena. Now they have aligned itself into the political sprectrum rather it be Repug and or Demo's. Right now in Russian the Head of the church there has called for the downfall for Ukraine ( an alignment) why? The conservative relgious leader here have been calling for the downfall of the Roe vs Wade, why? Religion was never meant for this, imho. This is one of the reason's i will never step into a building calling itself a church. Now i have made a promised to me real mom, she was catholic and lgbtq, right before she passed she asked me to walk into a church and set a candle for her on her bday....that i do till this day....and that is the only time i will step into one and on that one day only

I'm not saying he is an angel, but a lot of what he says speaks to me.
I know he doesn't like leftist... I have to say I'm very barely left.
The real problem w/ Petersen is his framing: it’s not like everything he says is false or misleading, its his chains of “logic”, and drawing conclusions based on distortion, not clarity or’wisdom’.

Perfect example of how ‘red-pilling’ works: it’s not a rabbit hole (‘cept when Rabbit A is there), it’s a trap.

Donald is so evil he is contagious, like a permanent case of covid, to spend any time near him is a risk, the closer you got the more risk you were under. Some people have weak immune systems, some have weak characters and some have weak minds. Donald attracted the weak character and minded types like a moth to a flame, it doesn't usually end well for the moth, it can only be free when the flame is snuffed out.
It’s that “big dick energy” Kari Lake likes so much…she says DeSatan has it, too…I think she just has the hots for serious assholes, because the behavioral manifestation of ‘BDE’ is *classic* asshole behavior.

Hoping the resolution to this will help us find a way to STOP LETTING ASSHOLES RUN IMPORTANT THINGS.

Wanted to add that since I was a kid, “American Christianity” has become unrecognizable: “Bible-study” has become a self-brainwashing competition between hooked fish, a political, ‘culture-war’ itemized JUSTIFICATION of their radical reconstruction by cherry-picking passage that - stripped of all context - are used to shore up the “biblical underpinnings” of their highjack efforts & convince the more-easily-led of their appropriate jesusness.

I now have an extreme allergy to ‘things Christian’, including shit like Christmas - which wasn’t celebrated popularly ANYWHERE until the Victorian era

I happened into a fundie congregation in the end 70s.
The current evangelical assault was there, fully formed like Venus on the half-shell. Members of staid respectable churches never bothered to look at the tongue-speakers.

The strictures on sexual behavior have the specific purpose of instilling a Stockholm syndrome. Obeying the strictures is a difficult and unnatural act, whose psychological payload is “Do NOT tell me that I did all this for nothing, or worse than nothing!” Much harder to deprogram than it ever was to consent to it.
