Manchin clarifies: He’d oppose second high court nominee right before presidential election
Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) on Monday said he would not support confirming another nominee selected by President Joe Biden for the Supreme Court immediately before the 2024 presidential election, clarifying remarks he’d made earlier about the midterm elections.

Manchin said he would prefer to wait until the country knows who will occupy the White House in 2025.

Manchin walked back the comment he made earlier afternoon indicating that he would not support confirming a second Biden nominee to the Supreme Court if another vacancy occurs shortly before the Nov. 8 midterm election.

Asked if the Senate should act if another seat becomes vacant “later in the year closer to the election,” Manchin responded: “I’m not going to be hypocritical on that.”

“If it comes a week or two weeks before like it did with our last Supreme Court nominee, I think that’s a time it should go to the next election,” he said.

Manchin’s comments immediately attracted attention on Twitter after several reporters posted his comments.

He then explained to reporters that he “misspoke” and that he would only support holding up a Supreme Court confirmation proceeding immediately before the next presidential election.

“I was referring to that election, before a major presidential election,” he said.

That’s the position he and other Democrats took in the fall of 2020 after Ruth Bader Ginsburg died in September of that year.

I'll believe it when I see it, Manchin will say Bidens pick is not moderate enough or some similar bullshit, you know, the bi-partizan excuse.
I said it. It's out there for you to return to if you turn out to be right

I don't know if Manchin will or will not support Biden's pick this year. I'm just saying, he will get a pick placed this year.

surely he'll support the new one?; he's just saying that if it's in an election year kind of like what didn't happen with the RBG replacement- voting had already begun and they brought in ACB.

Manchin is a scoundrel..i have a feeling the folks in West Virginny want their $300 per kid back..which he wants to cap if it ever comes back.

i've seen some of you complaining about direct cash subsidy? families are entitled to Child Tax Credit which they receive at the end of the year with their tax filing- IF THEY KNOW ABOUT IT..you see most don't and most don't have a CPA in that state.

We're helping them to understand.

let him try..i believe that those in the running all have been confirmed by Congress in one way or the other for different roles.

Joe Rob needs to step it the fuck up though i don't trust Manchin.

we have to get ready for the midterms and need this out of the way- all of our attention should be focused on slamming Trump and 1/6.

stare decisis on ACB..we were already early voting. but IT IS A MIDTERM YEAR:wink:
Morgan has his opinion and he's well informed. The mistake I saw in his posts is Manchin was talking about refusing to seat a justice before the 2024 election, not 2022.

Given the chances of Republicans taking control of the House, Senate or both in 2023, Biden will most definitely have his choice up for votes soon. Manchin is not a Trumper, though he voted that direction about 35% of the time during the dark age of Republican domination.

So, maybe he will, maybe he won't vote for Biden's pick. But no matter how one adds thing up, 2022 does not equal 2024. I don't mind calling Morgan wrong on this one.

i'm really surprised Manchin is already making plans for something that hasn't yet happened; may not happen; may never happen..he just want to make certain everyone knows he's the Judas Goat.

Manchin is 74, he could die naturally at that age or fall off his yacht or get into a car accident.

Maybe he felt lonely on that yacht and wanted attention? Or maybe he wanted reporters around because, ya know, "car accident". I'm guessing desperation will mount when moms & dads are forced to choose between rent or food for their kids this month.

goddamn this guy is a fucking weasel...he means he'll do whatever his owners tell him to do, whenever they tell him to do it, because he doesn't want to fuck up his Koal Kash Konnection...i wonder what he's going to do when all those miners he FUCKED OVER vote him out of office and he's not on a board he should never have been on, protecting his interests at all costs? and the people running him now abandon him because they can't use him to further their own agenda anymore? oh yeah, i guess he'll just go back to running a strip mining company that's raping the earth to deposit wads of cash in his bank account...

and yet he would deny WV families Child Tax Credit up front- because that's all this is and now he wants to cap?

ummmmmm, sorry but Child Tax Credit has been on the books since 1997; no cap..try to get around that LOSER!

Federal Child Tax Credit
It was established as a part of the 1997 Taxpayer Relief Act. ... Originally, the tax credit was $400 per child under age 17 and nonrefundable for most families. In 1998, the tax credit was increased to $500 per child under age 17.Feb 1, 2022

of course i do understand we wish to have this as a monthly cash subsidy however, we can afford The Great Tax Cut of 2017?..so we can afford this.

Manchin is about 51st on the list of about 52 people in the senate that need to get voted out of office.
he keeps putting himself at the top of the headlines, it's hard to ignore that kind of persistence, waving a flag that says "hey, i'm a prick that is more interested in my own interests than those of my constituents or my country"....
you're right, of course, manchin is small potatoes, compared to many others, but he's so easy to despise, and he still deserves it, there are just others who deserve it more....fortunately, loathing is an unlimited commodity

on purpose and Media keeps carrying him..so what does that tell you Roger? their money grubbing advertising whores..anything divisive to get clicks.

i refuse to click and have not posted any CNN digital in the recent past days; so disgusted am i at their sense of cavalier is the same as a re-tweet.

don't do it..they want you to click..half info titles..but guess what? almost all of their new information is already in the headline- that one sentence; now how to build around it so everyone will read..?

think about all of this over something that is non-issue and we're talking about him.

as far as deserving? he needs to vote with his party on HIS presidents agenda..is he retiring or can't run anymore? i don't get why he's doing this.
