colon cancer

My Dad has contracted colon cancer and is unable to keep anything on his stomach. This is keeping him from taking treatments of chemo and radiation. I was told that marijuana takes the nausea away and increases appetite. Is this true or false. Also does it help with the pain he is experiencing from surgery.
He is 73 years old and we have now been told that he has spots on his liver and lungs. At this point all we want is for him to be able to wake up and be comfortable enough to enjoy what life he has left. Are we barking up the wrong tree or what?

It depends on the individual. An ounce will last me three to four weeks, but I don't have cancer and I'm not undergoing chemo or radiation therapy. That's about a gram a day, by the way.

Are you in need of supporting science for your father or his doctor?

I've had stomach issues my whole life and yes it does wonders on both pain relief and appetite.... plus it will alleviate nausea caused by chemo.. My best wishes to your dad... may the powers that be see him through..

I understand. But, do you have an additional problem of convincing him that there are therapeutic benefits to mj, or what? We cannot help you with acquisition, but we can help with just about anything else.

My dad smoked until the age of 44 and hasn't had a cigarette since, so I don't think he would have much trouble just at first maybe. As far as convincing him about the therapeutic part of it, I wouldn't think it will be that difficult to convince him at this point. I'm trying to get as much info as I can to take to him.
He's not that bad right now but he is steadily getting worse. He's lost 35 pounds in the last four weeks and dropping.

What do you mean about the science of it?

Thanks again for replying

do a search on the possitive affects of marijuana on colon cancer, and you will find plenty! My ex-wife had colon cancer at 25...had her colon and part of her small intestines removed...then they basicly sewed her intestines to her rectum...she went through hell. 20 min after eating, she was is the bathroom. She was a smoker, and said it helped her alot. They put her on Marinol for a while...that might be something to look into!

Hey roe. I had cancer and marijuana was the ONLY thing that would give me any appetite. It also, almost magically, cured only the pain I had from the radiation therapy (stomach). I was still able to feel life going on and it put me in a positive mood as well. I just got it from friends I knew who smoked. I am sure it wont be difficult to locate some good pot in Georgia, I am sure you know someone at this point, who keeps some good green stuff.

Good Luck to you,
NYK

The link provided will be a start. Then, I would Google marijuana cancer. It's been discovered to have some anti-cancer properties, as well as being efficacious in treating those who are undergoing chemo/radiation therapies. That's the science bit I mean.

Is he under the care of a dietitian? That's a lot of weight to drop in such a short period of time. Weed will help stimulate his appetite, but if he's undergoing treatment then his dietary needs have changed. If they put him on Ensure, you can substitute Carnation Breakfast Drink using whole milk as a less expensive alternative (I know Ensure is expensive). I don't know if he can stomach it at this time. Best of luck finding what you need.

Hey Guys
Thanks for the info. We actually talked to the sherriff's dept. and they just advised us not to have more than 1 ounce on us. Also that if we explained the situation that they would be understanding. I really appreciate all you guys replying and am glad to say my Dad agreed after explaining everything. I have found a source and we are set.

Thanks Again and everyone have a great Thanksgiving
