Trichomes won't form?!?

This is my fourth time growing indoors. Apparently, I had been lucky up to this point with growing. I read through many topics to understand the basics (in addition to Ed Rosenthal's grow handbook).
Simple operation, or so I thought. I'm growing just one plant in a closet, using soil. Haven't changed anything from the prior times, but for a reason I can't figure out and correct, the buds have formed (currently at week 9 of flowering) but the trichomes have not come in, thus the plant hasn't developed a skunky odor, nor have the buds become sticky. Using just a 150w hps light in addition to a 65w fluorex flood light behind the plant. Used high nitrogen nutrients during the vegetative stage and jack's bloom booster (10-30-20) for the first 6.5 weeks of the flowering. Have flushed the soil since.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Put Eds book away. Take a sabbatical from this site and spend some time hanging around straight up gardening forums for awhile. Get your ground work done and then return to cannabis forums to 'fine tune' your garden..........

Hey man. Not all strains develop the same amount of trichomes. Do you know what strain you are growing?

dude i dont think your doing anything wrong prolly just the strain. theres no reason it would have fat bud with no trics other than strain. it doesnt look quite done yet tho so you never know it could start exploding with trics

It's still hard to tell by those pictures. I had plants that start out late like that too and they end up to be 10+ week plants. I also had my share of genetically weak phenos too so be prepared for that as well. Can you get a cheap MH bulb? I'd use that in the open air and see if your plant would respond.

I've never grow your strain, but just looked at a gallery of ec sour diesel and it don't look like a heavy trichnome covered strain. Trichnomes normally start to form during the last few weeks of flower, but even that is also strain related and also growing techniques. Don't really wanna be a critic cause your buds look nice and fat, but try less nutes next time, they look a bit burnt.

ok well im no pro but here are some quick tips you can take for what they are worth:

1) Personally i would find a real "line" of nutes if you wanna see high quality. sure some ppl can grow some sick stuff with just MG and play it off like no big deal, but for most us without a green thumb we need better nutrients if we want dank sticky shit.

2) Lighting, yours are a little weak atm, but thats not to say they wont work. it should be perfectly reasonable to grow a plant on a 250 watt hps but few ppl choose hps less then 400 watts. power, penetration, and heat all play into it. Once again just my opinion but if my grow couldn't handle anything over a 250 watter I would explore different options like CFL or LED. I know i know the idea of CFL over hps of any watt seems pretty backward but hps are hot and cfls are not thus you can use more of them and put them closer. LEDs are great if you can afford them and don't have room for a big hps.

2b) i would venture to guess you are not strict and dedicated to your flowering cycle? i could be wrong but judging by the leaves at the top of your colas i would say they are getting some light they should be at time they shouldn't be getting it, it dosn't look like anything extreme but the only time i have had or seen leaves look like the ones in the second set of pics is when there is a light leak or they have been "checked on" to often after there bed time.

3) try a different strain. if this plant is repeatedly not producing the results you want then maybe its not you, maybe its the plant. it never hurts to try out something different and see how it goes =). I have one plant that is only moderately strong that i found in bag seed but 2 weeks into flower get fuzzy all over with trics, and when i say all over i mean all over, fan leaves and all, well maybe not the very ends of the largest fan leaves but still.

Cool, thanks man. I have just been confused with this one, as I had grown the Bubblegum strain previously. The white hairs started to turn orange around week 7 and figured the pungent aroma of the plant would kick in and it would start to become covered in crystals, but that didn't happen. Some of the white hairs turned orange and then a new batch of them sprung up, but still haven't seen an emergence of the trichomes. Will continue on and hope for the best.

Much appreciated, will definitely look into new nutrients in the future and perhaps upgrade the lighting. I was super strict with the flowering light cycle. Everything is on a timer and the way the timing is set, I've been there to seal up the closet every day. It could be the strain, but guess it was just the guilt ridden feeling in me that wants to blame myself in the hopes of administering some sort of quick fix. Thanks again. :-)

I'm thinking you have some type of root issue/s. The leaves show a lot of burn issues with with downward canoeing. Once their burnt real good they never reach their full potential!
Possibilities~
root rot
constance over watering
salt build up
not alternating water/feeding

Do you have an ona block or something similar in your grow room? Anything that would be a smell coverer or damp rid or something? Sometimes those can affect trichs being formed I've read.

So you haven't fed the plant for 2+ weeks? That and maybe bad genetics, who is the breeder for Sour D?
