For a tiny HP case a 70w HPS would work just fine as long as you kept the case cool and vented. You also need to think about the air circulation, as you're going to need a good supply of CO2 in such a cramped space.

Why such a small space? Trying to hide it from mom and dad? This is a grown up sport. Sorry if I am off base and you are adult and on your own but usually PC growers are children.

Kali's advice is sound.

^^ wrong.

Im on my own, and i have a PC veg box. A statement like your's sounds like it WOULD come from a child...

The space is perfect to veg about 2-3 plants. You will want to use CFL's. A 70w HPS will get that box very hot and it will take up most of the space. My box gets hot to the touch with just 3 CFL's.

I have 1 exhaust and passive intake and the temps are just fine. I say go for it. there is a thread dedicated to PC grow cases on ICmag.com Check it out!

If your box is hot to the touch with 3 CFLs, either you're using some very high-powered CFLs or you're not venting/circulating air in enough quantities.

I made a grow box out of an old plastic box of cat litter (scoopable) and the space is smaller than an HP computer case. I have four CFLs attached to it and it barely heats up.

Hope you didn't mount those CFLs directly to the case, that's a no-no and causes the case to heat up.

Speaking as a person that's ripped apart a Cray cabinet, NAS cabinet, and many Antec cases to make grow boxes.

you can grow anywhere. just use your imagination, vent it properly.. watch the heat, the ph, and give it proper light, and you got yourself a plant. ;)

those dell server cases are good for pc grow boxes, i think many ppl use those. turbine fans on the sides, use a 150w hps 20$ security light, veg with CFL.. it's all good.

Check out my grow if you need any ideas. Its possible and you can get a nice yield if you do it right :)

And my lights are barely ever hot to touch, I could hold one in my hand if i wanted to.

I wouldn't do an ice chest. You'd have to modify if too much and if you're worried about rents coming over they're gonna wonder why an Igloo cooler has wires running out of it. Far stealthier to use a PC Case, wires coming out and fan noise is the norm. Just make sure you exhaust through a carbon air filter. :)
