What Would an Evangelical Christian Country Be Like

That would be, "What is a loser?" Alex.
As he previously stated the peer pressure is a heavy load down south along w/bible belt indoctrination, it takes balls to buck all your redneck kin w/even moderate pragmatic views let alone straight up liberal leanings, ostracism and blackballing will surely result to those brave enough to say "I think that's wrong Travis". But by and large the South is going to have to eventually move back closer to the center for our country to progress I'm certainly not expecting a conversion to Dems. but a return to the Rep. party of 20-30 yrs ago would be a drastic improvement at least in those day's pragmatism in that party was ingrained in some reps. along w/ the willingness to negotiate the give and take putting country over party for the common good. This current crop of reps ,save for a select few, has morphed into an uncompromising, conspiracy promoting, and in some cases treasonous lot of vile, unpatriotic individuals who have no platform to speak of other than obstruction.ccguns

I have plenty of family in Mississippi and Florida. They were always very conservative, citing gospel and hated the president if he was a Democrat. They talked about "yankees" as if they were not human. They don't seem to have changed much to me.

Atheists commit a particular error of logic.

I am neither religious nor an atheist. So I am free to go where my curiosity seduces me.
meh,

The theory of a supernatural being who creates the universe and everything is just an unnecessarily complicated theory to justify religion.

God isn't needed to understand the universe.
The God-theory adds complication.
Choose the simpler theory.

I think the belief in a higher power is an effort to deny the fact we are as insignificant as we really are.

Phrasing these as either or choices is why we're screwed.

No matter who wins expect the authoritarian trend to continue.

Beginning with the industrial revolution, and probably before then, the trend away from authoritarian rule has been pretty much unstoppable. 300 years ago, to today -- a nearly unbroken line of political and social change away from autocracy.

You're aware that authoritarian rulers fueled the great wars of the 20th century that killed an estimated 150,000,000 people?

This thread reminds me of that wiener in Colorado that approached a bunch of teenage girls on the beach because "he was moved by the holy spirit" and told them how low their self esteem is and how they should protect the eyes of children because of what they were wearing. They were 100% ordinary bathing suits, not the cool kind you see in anime. This isn't an isolated incident, you have these Christian Taliban telling people what to wear and what they can and can't do with their own bodies, it's disgusting. The USA right now is like Afghanistan right before the Taliban took it back. Things were okay for women in the cities, but go anywhere else, and you had the mullahs chasing them with sticks. Now it's just sticks everywhere, and that's exactly what it would look like here. Fundamentalist Islam and Fundamentalist Christianity are 99% the same exact religion drawing the same exact type of person.

I refuse to let people who pick their camp to try to put me in a box that they use to allow themselves to feel superior.
