70s Mexican, Oaxacan, Columbian strains

I’d love to get hold of some cheap weed like I used to smoke in the early 1970s but I don’t know what strains they were. I’m not interested in anything better. It’s not Columbian Gold, just $35 for 4 finger lid, Columbian in 1976. Oaxacan was $15, cheap Mexican was $10.

They all had stems and seeds and I’m not expecting it to cost the same now. I liked the high and as everything turned to green sinsemmilla, that greasy food loud music high became elusive so I stopped.
I’ve looked for information about this online which has also proved elusive.
Anybody know what these were?

Welcome to RIU.

What you are seeking seems counterintuitive, but do the following and you'll maybe get what you're looking for.

Go to any seedbank and search for those keywords. I've used SeedSupreme and Seedsman successfully in the past. Get something that indicates Sativa or Sativa dominant. Get regular seeds so you'll have males to seed the females. Plant them wherever you can, but don't do too much prep to the soil. Don't put too much effort into caring for them throughout the season. Harvest too early. Hang dry to over dry in suboptimal conditions, too hot and dry. Don't trim them very well. If you want the compressed look/feel, smash them up real good.

Panama Red, Colombian, Acapulco Gold, Oaxacan.

I doubt you'll find exactly the same thing now, but the seedbanks do sell seeds by those names. Just look for something Sativa, no Indica. Look for landraces. Maybe similar effect from Thai or Vietnamese landrace.

The commercial growers are all producing things with more potency. Maybe look for something with a higher CBD:THC ratio.

Ahhh good ol Mexican brown brick weed. I fondly remember rolling two-paper joints and smoking the whole thing in one sitting. First time I saw uncompressed green "kind bud" I thought the guy was trying to pass some fake shit off on me.

Yup. I opened up my LZ 4 fold in 2004 and my boy asked me why there were sticks in my record. Big fatties or a friend turned me in to a chillum which would produce a high that was the “female orgasm” version of a bong high. If you’ve ever had a chillum high, and understand the male/female difference, that might make sense.

Even distribution of smoke in the lungs I’m told.

I’m in Ca, so I don’t need to grow, but between the nuance of what I want, the focus on potency, and the inability of a stoned kid raised on “Common Core” to first listen and them comprehend what I want, finding it has proved to be elusive.

From a purely consumer's perspective, you should be looking for, at dispensaries or anyone you know who sells weed with names :lol:

Durban Poison or anything "Durban", almost anything with "Gold" in the name, anything with "Afghani", "Af" or "Afgoo" in the name, and anything Haze. Pure nostalgia. Almost any dispensary nationwide will have some or all of these in stock. Also geta sativa cartridge while you're at it

BTW. I’m sorry to all of you if I’m off-topic. I’m just now realizing this board is more for cultivation. But, if any of you have a store, I know of a lot of old guys like me on the sidelines because we can’t get this. We don’t want to be comatose, we want cheap and really don’t care about cleaning stems and seeds. But, it’s not as simple as just loading up your garbage after trimming.
We want that high high and the whole smoking experience.

when I drove Uber, nobody in thebiz, grower, store owner, distributor,counter guy, wouldn’t hear thIs and just prattled on about how I could do the same with less material because of superior potency.

when it goes”fed legal”, masses are gonna want lower potency

It wasn't simply the genetics it was also how it was dried, cured and packed. I too am in search of that wonderful, ceilingless high.

The thing is that even if you do get some original genetic that you're looking for it's not going to be the same. That's because it's going to be grown better not just big outdoor fields like it used to be. You'll end up with better quality and more potent weed than what you remembered.
