If you wanna test ur plant early, this the way!

I always get annoyed when people make such a big deal about chopping too early or the automatic answer “2 more weeks”. I’ve grown bud that was plenty potent mid way through flowering and I’ve likewise had plants that at the same point in flowering had zero potency. In my experience indicas start to get potent early in flower and it is the sativas that take longer to get to that same point.

For me the main reason I put off harvest as long as possible is to get maximum yield. The potency might be acceptable but leaving those buds alone allows it to keep growing.

My last grow I staggered my harvest based on each plants readiness. I had 3 outdoor plants. The first I chopped a couple weeks early (it was at what I considered to be at the very beginning of the harvest window) because I had to go out of town for a couple of days and I was paranoid about rippers and wanted to make sure I had something to show for the year. The second I chopped almost a month later, and that plant was ready. The last plant I chopped 2 weeks later following the old adage of when you think it’s ready give it 2 more weeks. I was most satisfied with the second plant I chopped and wound up wishing I’d taken the 3rd one at the same time. The third had some kind of issue where it seemed like the buds started shrinking slightly and I saw no improvement in potency or taste for having given it the extra time.

Obviously this is all anecdotal and I’m not trying to make the case that waiting to harvest is a mistake, but I also realized that assuming plants always need more time is also a mistake.
