There's 2 types of BT bacteria so pick the right one.
BTi is for gnats and things in your soil. Usually a soil drench solution or Mosquito bits in the soil.
BTk is foliar application for caterpillars and things eating your leaves. No sense spraying too early, not many caterpillars.
I grow corn in the back row as a lure crop and index crop, big bugs flock to that first, smaller moths go for the buds later in the season.
Watching the corn is easy, watch the buds in the evening/early am to see small moths doing patrols, then spray.
