There is no more republican party as we know it.
The Republican Party is still with us:

It's not a conservative party, it is radical authoritarian and has plenty of heft:

They even have a button on their front page for people to report election fraud. One of the links (literal shot chaser) is filled with grievance over Trump not being given enough credit for His vaccine. More than a hundred Republican Representatives voted in favor of objecting to electoral college votes from Pennsylvania and Arizona. And so on.

In my lifetime, they were always rabidly "three strikes and you get life in prison", War on Drugs, dog whistle politics, law and order, that sort of thing. The country is moving away from THEM, not the other way around. That, in my opinion, is why they are getting so militant. That, and they perceive themselves as being on the same side as the police and so feel entitled to be violent.

People who say they are conservatives and no longer able to remain with the party represent only a quarter of their numbers. I think they have reached a point where they can't deny who the party is. Reagan's so called conservative movement was never that. It was always radical authoritarian. The mask has slipped, that's what happened with Trump.

Never underestimate their fear at America not being majority white in the next few years.

ok... so let me get this straight... dude gettin a blow job is worse than dude trying to destroy the country? You have just entered the twilight zone.
He was getting that blow job when he shut down the federal workforce without pay, furloughs. I was an essential person required to come to work and work mandatory 16 hours shifts without getting paid. All those non-essential employees sat at home, then came back to work and got back pay for not working while I had to file an unfair labor claim to get paid for the overtime work I was forced to work and then couldn't get paid for.

I retired in 2008. I finally got paid for the overtime after a lawsuit involving others that worked with me. I got those settlement checks for unpaid overtime in 2016 and again in 2019. Years after I retired after years of court wins where the DOJ appealed the ruling for years. I think I ended up with $30,000 in back pay and damages. The damages occurred because the DOJ refused to promptly pay after losing the case repeatedly.
