Hello, I'm just looking for some suggestions for what to do with my cheese plant in regards to defoliation and training and when to do so. It will be coming up on 12 weeks in veg, and will go another 6 or so before my other lights will free up so I can flower it.
It had some nutrient deficiencies earlier in its life but it seems to be doing well now, but I still don't want to stress it too hard. Also I need it to stay as compact as possible as I am planning on flowering the other plants I have in veg at the same time using both of my lights. Any opinions appreciated.

Do not defoliate. Perform another LST on each branch and you’re set
LST is an ongoing process that continues right into end of week 3 of flower around where stretching stops. Defoliation has many benefits if leaves are blocking bud sites as well as rh control. Topping and LST are an excellent combo for anyone dealing with height issues. Read more about defoliation and the benefits it offers before just taking this guy's simple advice lol.

If you have the room to LST? You need to get those branches pulled flat an separated from each other. Tie halfway up the branch if possible. Then tie the ends down. You can bend the stems fairly far. Just stop if you hear or feel anything Crack, snap or tear. And those can be fixed if you stop in time. Another thread. But then you want to remove all leaves and shoots on the underside of the branches. As well as anything growing at an odd angle or yellow. Can't post pics now. On tablet. Look in my journal. There's a good example of how to do it and the results.

I ended up tying the branches back against pieces of a plastic hanger, and cutting 8 of the fan leaves off of the inside only. I'll let it grow like this and see what happens. The only thing is I think I will need to find another way to support it come flower time as the hangers are close to a few of the pistils. I'm assuming they would get in the way of the buds trying to grow, correct?

There is no reason to defoliate the photographed plants.

You should only expose the new cola sites to air and light. The fan leaves are still beneficial and not blocking light

Thanks

How tall is this plant?

The plant itself looks 18-24 inches. If it was me, I would super crop all 4 of those branches about half way down. Give all the lower branches the chance to become a main cola. Your plant redirects it’s energy to the top most node, bring all the nodes closer to the same height.

That looks good. Next round top and train earlier. Here's what you can do. 009.jpg001.jpg

The main reason I dont want to supercrop is because I'm kinda low on space and want to flower all of my vegging plant under both lights for maximum effect, and to clear up room for new grows I'm guessing that would be more effective than splitting the plants between the lights. It all really depends on how big they get before my other light frees up. 3 of my others havent revealed gender yet so I may still have that space too.

Well, it’s up to you regardless. My experience with a 4 top plant is they’re kinda lame in yield. Lol
