Investors may be waiting until 2021 before a Covid-19 vaccine becomes available, according to quantitative pioneers PanAgora Asset Management Inc.
The Boston-based systematic asset manager is using its ability to parse vast quantities of medical research data to infer whether any of approximately 60 trials currently underway will succeed in producing a successful vaccine, said George Mussalli, chief investment officer and head of equity research at PanAgora. Their findings may disappoint those hoping that access to one soon will boost markets.

“It doesn’t look very promising, based on today’s data, that there’s going to be a vaccine any time this year,” he said in an interview on Friday. He does see progress before 2020 ends, though -- “we find that there’s a really good chance that by the fall or the end of this year, doctors will have a toolkit to treat patients.”

CBC news foggy, we get our facts straight not much political interference in science up north. CBC is a credible source and I see your slagging them too. I provided the story, but no commentary, people are free to make up their own minds based on credible responsible sources and the CBC is one, like the BBC.

The novel vaccine. It's a prudent investment in research and because the potential reward is off the charts, it's worthwhile to build manufacturing capability as well as make a large quantity speculation that it could pass. That said, any of those vaccines have practically zero chance of making it through testing at all, much less ready by the end of the year. If we were doing this ahead of the crisis it wouldn't register on any major news outlets.

It's also true that I never thought cheerleaders were attractive. Not even when I was their age. Not now. Especially not cheerleaders who are retired old men in Nova Scotia.

Is Canada doing enough to implement widespread testing, contact tracing and setting up a safe, humane way to isolate people who may be infected? From what I've read, they are not. So, this vaccine is a worthwhile investment, don't get me wrong but that article was most definitely pap fed to you and other adult children. I'm guessing it's because your government, just like mine, needs to distract people so that they don't see the inadequacies in real world, practical and demonstrated effective containment methods. But maybe I'm wrong. We are being flooded with dumb and unprofessional reporting on a subject that is very difficult in the best of times. There is a science and technology forum that is appropriate for the "gee whiz, lookat that", kind of stuff. I avoid that kind of crap because it's not dependable information and yet, here it is.

When I want to learn more about a technical subject, I read AAAS, Smithsonian and other sites that supports professional technical journalism. The CDC site has a lot of good stuff in it on coronavirus. You won't see much about optimism about HCQ or the new vaccine now in stage 2 testing coming from the real scientists. Our resident amatuer virologist, on the other hand posts crap that seems almost giddy in excitement over what's happening.

But yeah, this is a ridiculous argument. He's a fucking unfiltered copy and paste kind of guy. 90% of what he's posting on the subject is nonsense and he doesn't care. Nothing will stop him. I'm not going to, that's for sure.

I understand and agree with most of you’re positions on this topic but I would argue everything is political, even discussions about treatments for a disease. There have been similar posts and threads in this political forum without backlash. DIY has a lot of opinions. Some I agree with and some I don’t. I have the choice to read and respond to a post or I can choose to ignore it.

Most of us here are reasonable people and can decide for ourselves what to do with information provided. We don’t need to be protected from potentially dangerous ideas. At least I don’t.

This is a scary disease and the more we learn about it the less we know. I’m with you on being as cautious as possible. When my life is on the line I tend to err on the side of caution.

To answer your question, we are doing the same in Canada as different provinces are opening up at different levels. My province of Ontario is moving too fast IMO and I’m concerned about it.

Another effort at voter suppression and risking citizens lives for power. Will Donald try to close or paralyze the USPS to suppress the mail in vote? Maybe I misunderstood but it looked to me like DIY was be accused of “promoting propaganda” and chastised for it. I disagree and don’t think that’s what he was doing. There was talk that it shouldn’t have been presented in a political forum. I disagree with that as well.

I enjoy reading your posts and respect your opinion. For the most part we see things the same but there will be times we disagree.
