@srh88 since you are mr big shot plumber with an LLC, i got a ? for ya: LOL

what's your opinion on sharkbites? right before all this virus hoax started, our water heater started leaking. i called a few plumbers but they were booked out for weeks so i just said fuck it, off to home depot and do it myself.

but back to the sharkbites: i'm debating whether or not to hire a plumber to come in and replace the sharkbite stuff with copper. thoughts? if sharkbites are rated for behind wall use, they shoudl be safe for years right? what i used was an all in one piece: one end had the water heater fitting, a hose with stainless braid, then a shut off valve and then the sharkbite to the original 3/4 copper.

Yeah they last if you strap down the pipe real well. They fail when they move because of how they grab. The teeth lose grip if it wiggles. If I was getting paid in someone's house I wouldn't use em because of quality. But they do last if they stay in place. Never use the shark bite valves. I'd use their caps for rough ins all the time.
You'll save money and it's easy to do yourself. I'd go get a pex crimper and run it in pex. Just as easy. Crimpers arent cheap though lol

thank you kind sir! i hadn't thought about the pex. maybe i can find a place to rent the crimper.

i have sweated a few joints in copper but i wasn't confident enough to risk a massive water leak. that's why you guys are paid the big $ and have liability insurance

Lol my worst insurance claim was a pex fitting. A 3/4 fitting blew apart and it ran water alllll night. Water was coming down the driveway. It was a whole lot of damage. Cabinets, hardwood floors... all kinds of shit lol. My insurance company fought the fitting manufacturer because my crimps were fine. I prefer copper but I agree, if you're fresh to it a couple fittings will make you lose sleep lol

I only use Bradford white. Guarenteed 6 year warranty no questions asked. All they want is the sticker off it. Home depot pro rates their warranties and also sometimes want the heater (to make it a pain in the ass)

Water heaters are real easy. I'd line up days and do nothing but water heaters some days. I'd do around 5 of them and make an easy few thousand profit in a day. I'd get the pump hooked up and thatd take like a half hour to pump out old heater. I'd drag down new heater and prep it in like 15 minutes.. get rest of shit set up. Swap it out and fill it.. while its filling I'd drag out old one. Then fire up new one and I'm off to the next. I do hot some good heater horror stories though

I re-routed my shower lines, turned on the water, and waited a few minutes. All was good

But then I had to go out for a couple hours to pick up a grinder blade at my parents’ house. The feeling of dread I had walking back in the door was huge
