Hi all, I’m looking to switch over to a QB setup and looking at 2 different brands which is Spider Farmer & Mars Hydro. I’m look to cover a 10x5 tent and wondering if anyone has any experience with either brand of these lights? I’m looking at the SF-2000, TSW-2000 and the TSL-2000. Was gonna get 3 of which ever one would cover my tent size the best but still learning and would highly appreciate any feedback from some of you experienced growers out there using these lights. Thanks in advance!

I dont use those lights, never have, so cant help you much there, what i can help you with is overall setup and the math to cover that space.

5x10 is 50ft2

50ft2 @ minimum 30w per ft2 = 1500 watts

by my calculations, you would need 7 or 8 of those sf2000s to cover that space properly. As they are only 200w lights.

Now if your only planning on using 4x8 of that space for growing the math obv changes(960w needed), but if your planning on going wall to wall, noway in hell is 2 of those lights gonn do it for you. they are only 200w each

How much of the 5x10 do you plan to use for canopy?

That’s one reason why I was kinda leaning towards one of the lights from Mars as they’re both about 310w draw. After thinking about what you said, you’re right and I won’t be using the tent from wall to wall. Also like you said, most likely gonna use 4x8 of that space as I need room for heater, humidifier, fans etc. I was hoping to be able to get by with 3 of the Mars lights. The TSW-2000 coverage specs are Veg 4x4 & flower 3x3 and the TSL-2000 is veg 3x5 & flower 2x4. Also, I thought is was more about the PPFD numbers the plants were receiving and not exactly how many watts? I’m just asking as I’ve read that a few other times. I appreciate your reply and just trying to learn and do things the right way, thanks!

well at 4x8 canopy, thats 32 square feet, x 30w per ft2 , thats 960w needed....the 3 mars ts2000 is a 299w light , im sure it would be fine for wattage, my concern would be the footprint they cover.

You might be better off using the full width of the tent and only going 3` or 3.5` deep for your canopy...Use the empty wall for all your equipment.

3 of those mars in a line would and should cover that area decently. 3/3.5 x 10.....any deeper and i think the outside edges will suffer.

So you think I’d be better off going with the TSW-2000 instead of the TSL-2000 cause of the coverage?

i was only ever looking at the TSW , not the tsl

3 of those TSWs across 3/3.5x 10` canopy would work fine.

Those Mars and spiders run pretty damn hot
I could actually use the heat lol as it’s cool in my basement and im actually using a heater in there now which is which draws a good amount of power so would help on electricity bill. I recently had a sub panel installed as well so I can run everything in the basement off that which is really helping out from tripping breakers

ya i never mentioned DIY , he seemed like he was deciding between spyder and mars, so i left DIY alone lol
I was actually looking at the DIY setups from hgl but it doesnt really save too much money from what I seen and they’re a bit pricier
