Advice for colder garage

"One solution is have two tents on a flip so one is on when the other is off. Each with HID lighting. Use one tents heat to warm the one that has the lights off."

The idea of this is, arrange the timers so that only one light is on at a time... one circuit.
Oh fuck.. why did that not go through my head! Makes total sense. Although my thought with one being veg best case scenario if im running 18/6 there will still be 6 hours of overlapping use.

Ya, only works for two chambers on steady 12/12. Does work really good though.

It is possible that one can use a wye with two electric dampers, one normally open and one normally closed. When the lights are on in the 18/6 tent the air from the other tent is sent elsewhere by the baffle setup and when the lights go off the baffles switch and the warmth from the other tent is directed to the 18/6 tent. So when the power is on for the lighting in the 18/6 tent the normally closed baffle opens to let the air go elsewhere and the normally open baffle closes to prevent it from going in the 18/6 tent. When the lighting timer goes off the baffles lose power and bingo the heat now goes to the 18/6 tent until the lights come on.

On second thought... if I figure out another circuit to use I may try to hang up another 600 watt hps to create some heat. Will this be TOO much light? 600 watt hps plus hlg 550.

Also would I be able to just hang the hood and not air cool through it if I want to create some heat?

Plug the HID into a temperature controller thats plugged into the timer. Then it only runs as heat is required. Maybe just a 250 or 400. What about lights off?

I had same issue..leds..insulated shed..ran lights at night..still cold in day.. Buy a inkbird itc 308.. Has heat and cold outlet with probe..set your ranges..they turn off and on when needed..i have a 15amp circuit..bought a 200w mini heater for the 5x3ft space..

Thing is I worry that when the lights are off the humidity will spike in his tent causing issues.

those oil radiator heaters from big box stores are usually around 300w on the lowest setting and have a temp dial as well.

I run one on 600w and it keeps the chill out of my garage no problem.

you should be good for up to 1800w on a 15amp I think?
Maybe try a 3x3 veg tent with 400w mh to feed the air into the flower tent. Run extraction on low speed in flower tent.

This is actually a great idea that never crossed my mind.. Thinking more and more about squeezing in a 600w HPS light in there as well. Should create some heat. As long as i can run the electricity that may fix things for the most part. An LED + HPS light in the tent sounds pretty awesome as well! What do you think about this idea?

Do you think even with the low amount of humidity im sitting at now it could raise that much more with some bigger plants in there? Sitting at a pretty low 20-40% currently.

Some things that might be good for the long term, especially in the summer if the garage gets hot, build a well insulated room in the garage that can house your grow. Pull some more power.
I'm just renting currently or else i would be more inclined to that! Not sure how much longer I will be at my current place. At least one more year!

Thanks for all the help and ideas everyone!

Currently thinking i'm between some insulation along with a possible smaller heater, or another route that I'm more inclined about is keeping the LED and adding another hood with 600w HPS to help keep things on the warmer side. Possibly hooking it up to a thermostat to turn on only when needed for the warmth.

Thoughts?

Also.. Would i be able to run a 600w light inside a hood that isnt being air cooled? No ducting running through it and exhausting out of the tent to keep the warmer temps inside the tent? Or would this be too hot?

At what point should i worry about TOO much lighting inside the tent?

You are in the high levels at 60 watts per sqft of HPS, so beyond that you may have some bleaching and whatnot. Other than that it's can you control the heat.

Depends on the intake/ambient air temps. Try it and see.

60 watts per sqft on the HPS.. now is that with the HPS alone or with the LED light equated into that as well?

Thanks for the help.

In a 5x5 tent I would toss a 1kW CMH in there and call it done. Set other lighting aside. Still, lights out is when the temps will drop.

When mixing lights a good light meter is handy. When mixing LED and HID you want a meter that will measure both accurately so you have comparable numbers. The Apogee MQ-500 is what I use but it's not cheap. Many light meters will read LED way differently than say HPS therefore you can't compare the numbers.

With a meter you can get your light spacing as good as possible to reduce dark areas and to avoid having areas that are too intense.
