Thank you :mrgreen:. Sorry, I am not currently growing the Blueberries and Chocolate. I made a few posts in the Useful Seeds thread about the Chocolate Diesel that was used in that cross (will be easy to find with the thread search function).

As you post updates, I'm sure @Useful Seeds will be able to help you ID the expressions in the plants as they mature. I'll chime in anytime I can help as well. If you have trouble with finding the Chocolate Diesel pics/info in the Useful Seeds thread,let me know and I'll chase down some pics for you.

Did you start the Green Crack CBD from a cut?

I love growing from seed, but as far as a CBD quest I really should buy a verified high CBD clone, just haven’t found any offerings I trust enough yet.

Sorry to derail your thread with CBD talk.
The Green Crack CBD was from seed. I agree, if you have access to a verified high CBD cut, go for it. I did a CBD hunt a few years ago that also included HarleSin and VCDC, and this Green Crack CBD had the most CBD in the smoke. No apology needed, it's all good.:smile:

I’ve been kicking around an idea that I’d like to articulate and ask for any input.

My primary goal is to create a male version of a clone-only female. Not just any male, a male that is as identical to the female in expression as possible while making these desirable traits homozygous or “true-breeding”.

I would be back-crossing the target female successively to achieve this. Back-crossing is a process whereby the target plant is pollinated by successive progeny in order to reinforce the genetic contribution of the target female to resultant progeny.

To make this concept more visual:

As a male is chosen from each new back-crossed generation and used to pollinate (or cross back to) the target female, the phenotype of the target female is further reinforced in subsequent progeny. Usually, to the extent a strain is backcrossed, the process stops around BX#3 (cubing) as the resultant plants would have about 94% contribution from the target female. This is considered a good stopping point since the target female’s phenotype will theoretically be “locked down” in the progeny.

Now, if we continue the back-crossing beyond the third generation, we have the following sequence:

I expect to have to use this process with my Green Crack x Granny Skunk project as it’s main goal was to introduce one new trait (better structure) to the Green Crack while keeping everything else. A BX3 or “cube” would give me a plant that is 94% Green Crack with the 6% being the hardy structure of the Granny Skunk (if selection and genetic mixing allow).

What if I would like a near 100% phenotypic representation in seed form? The obvious answer would be to continue the back-crossing process to at least the BX8 generation (99.8%). The issue is male selection (selecting a single male expressing target female traits) from each round introduces an opportunity for poor selection that can carry recessive traits that will express later down the line. Since I aim not only to “lock-down” the phenotype of the target female, but also to “lock-down” the genotype such that these expressed traits are true breeding, I wonder if the lengthy process is worth the effort given so many opportunities for missteps.

I am considering taking the Chem’91-SkunkVA (and/or) Hells Angels OG to at least a BX8 generation in an effort to create a true-breeding male version of these elites without having to collect pollen from dozens of males each BX round. I realize this process will take considerable time and effort, so if anyone has any insights into such a prolonged back-crossing endeavor or any thoughts/considerations/musings you could share, please do.

The plant pictured is the Green Crack CBD at day 12 of flower.

My friend smokes the GC CBD flower by itself. Hopefully you'll find a CBD rich plant in the seeds for your extracts, caramels, and salves. I can appreciate the struggle to find CBD rich plants the old fashioned way :-).
So my mom has pain issues, health issues etc, and cbd rich strains help her immensely. She doesn't like to get high really though. The stuff she's been liking has been in the 1% range thc and in the 18-20% cbd ranges. Does her pain and nausea relieving, appetite reappears, etc. Is there a few strains you're familiar with that are in those ranges generally? And where a good place to acquire them from if you'd be so "kind". I'd like to have some going for her on a regular basis. I'd also like to procure a strain of one high % of both cbd and the for my own uses as well. Liking the report on the green crack cbd you did. So happy I found your thread, love following along. Plenty of professional plant pics and on point information. Awesomesauce. I think it sounds like a project I'll definitely be following along with. I have been reading up and learning about the whole breeding process as I find it extremely interesting. Can't say it enough, love the work/fun stuff you're doing.

The spinning head is exactly what your post made mine do lol You are the king of unbelievably detailed information man.
It would be interesting to see if you could somehow remove the issue of a mistake poor selection and the time it consumes having to start back where you were.
I say go for it even just for the experience of it. Not to mention it would be badass to pull it off.

Thank you. I think your best bet would be to seek a known and tested high CBD cut with the ratios you're after. I'm no CBD expert, but the cuts that come to mind with the high CBD and almost no THC would be Charlotte's Web or AC/DC. A couple with more THC but still high CBD would be Frank's Gift or Cannatonic. There are a few that have the more balanced THC:CBD like Harlequin and Sour Tsunami.

Finding a high CBD plant from seed has the difficulty of expressed chemotype variance. Only some seeds will have high CBD plants, meaning you're going to have to hunt for that ratio you want. If you have the option of buying a tested cut, go for it.

The Chems are looking good. They've filled in nicely and look ready to do some work for you.

I think I may have to choose a few males each generation that best fit the target mom, collect and mix their pollen to use. It would hedge my genetic bet by including multiple male contributors to the pool.

I've grown a charlottes web clone a few years back, was a gift to me. I had no way to preserve the plant at that time though. Thanks for the advice on the clone acquirement, I can probably find one of them locally. Always worried about the possibility of bringing home a pathogen though that may be on the clone. Seeds are great for that reason, but yeah I don't have the room for a big hunt either. I always love seeing what others have experienced or may know about. Always a great information laden reply.
