Quick clone question

Is there a window in the plants life cycle that u can clone from ? Like my main plant is starting to go into flower soon, and I am stressing to get some clones from her with not any luck so far , and it feels like I’m running outta time , how long do I have till I can’t clone from her anymore ??

Ive cut clones as far as 20 days into 12/12. They will have a start of a bud and they will take longer to root. You do get a lot more branching this way and it's called monster cropping. Taking cuts from the bottom portion of the plant usually roots faster.

The optimum time is when you first flower (two weeks)
Usually the issue with trying to clone is too much nitrogen and the clones never feel the need to root

Another little trick to ensure clone health, using an antiwilt dip when you cut them. Vitagrow makes the one I like. I have rooted cuttings in low RH without a dome using this stuff. You can still spray it on but I do prefer the dip when taking cuttings as it covers all surfaces 100%.

I take a cutting, scarify the end of the stem, knock off any extra leaves and nodes, dip the stem in rooting hormone gel, then dunk upside down it in a jar with the anti wilt mix then into a moist rapid rooter plug. I take 6" long cuttings.

Take clones when the plant is in veg. Take cuts of the newest fastest growing parts aka the top. These will usually root the fastest. Always cut at a 45 deg angle below a node. Dont cut in the middle of the nodes and try cloning that. Also cloning in flower is highly not advisable. The plant has switched its hormones to flowering and you take a clone and put it in say 18-24 hours light and it has to switch back to veg. Which is massive amounts of stress. This is where "genetic drift" (which is not possible in cannabis because there is no other sex involved when cloning) is thrown out as an excuse for mistakes. If you take cuts from the lower plant. Those cuts havent been exposed to much lighting. If you clone them now they will have to adapt to the new lighting and they wont root as fast too. The top branches are the best to clone.

Reveged clones are great. They will be so bushy when you put them into bigger pots. Monstercropping is what its called as mentioned. You can even reveg the original plant if your clones don’t take, which is a current problem for me as one of my PAKs don’t clone no matter what i do and its the last 20 days in flower. Last resort will be just leaving some fluff when harvesting and putting it under 24hrs on.

Quickest clones come from N hungry plants in veg that are well watered within a few hours of cutting. You want the plant tissue well hydrated to keep transpiration, and the associated osmotic pressure going, and the lack of N triggers the cut to hurry up and find food.

Here's a tip: Put any extra cuts in water and into your refrigerator, you can hold them for a week or more, good luck

Here's 2 more tips:
1. Take your cutting as normal and then make the 45 degree cut underwater (with a clean razor/scissors of course) then let the cuts sit underwater for around 30 minutes or so before putting them in whatever method you are using. This will reduce the chance that you will get an air bubble in the cut. I have done this along with tip #2 for well over a 90% success rate without using any rooting gels, etc.

2. Find a good DIY bubble cloner tutorial. I forget where I found mine but it's basically just a rubbermaid container with a small aquarium heater (i happened to have an adjustable temp one) and a small air pump pumping through an air stone. Fill it with RO water and a tiny bit of superthrive but leave enough room so that the rooting tips are 1/4" -1/2" from the surface of the water. All you need to do from there is check the water level every few days and you will have rooted clones in no time. I just cut holes in the rubbermaid's lid and used net pots with rockwool to hold the stems of the cuttings where I want.

I did an experiment last year to see how long I could keep cuts. I took a bunch of cuts of different strains, wrapped them in slightly dampened paper towel, put them into zip lock bags, sucked out most of the air, then into a Tupperware container and into the coldest part of my fridge. I took 2 out every couple weeks and tried rooting them. They popped roots consistently within 2 weeks, up until about 4 months when the rate of success dropped off dramatically. I can't rule out environmental issues messing with success rates, but knowing I can keep cuts in stasis for that long is nice. I'm about to start some new strains so I'm gonna put cuts of the strains I'm retiring into the fridge, just in case the new stuff doesn't work out.

Ill agree on the bubble cloner thing,I had troubles in RW and the dome.

The bubble way is so easy.No dome no fuss.10 days and roots start,just keep water warm.

You get to see the white bumps start to form so you know early that its working.No more waiting and watching the cube.

Hands down the simplest way to clone is put ur cuttings in a cup of water on a heating mat. I put a bunch in a cup to shade where the roots will grow. Heating may set to 78, if your not using city water, add three drops of bleach per gallon to keep everything sterile. I get 100% rooting this way and on my last run started seein roots after 6 days. No bubblers, nothing else. You can use a humidity dome but not needed

Always wanted to try that,should have some extra next time I cut.Any hormones?

Aero cloner, I did a DIY and never looked back. It solved all my "hard to clone" issues. About 10 ml of clonex per gallon, aquarium heater to keep water at 78, no humidity dome is needed. I will never go back to dips or powders . . . or humidity domes. If you got the cash, buy one and you will never look back.
