rapid led vs timber led, looking to buy today

Hey everyone,

As it says I am looking to order as I have been narrowing it down and need to get in order in for time's sake as well. I have a 5x5 currently running two 315s cmh and air cooled.. but that will be replaced after this run with the spydr2 by fluence :)

But I am looking to upgrade my spur of the moment perpetual tent. It is a simple 3x4. I use 3x3 for veg and the other 1x3 for the clone king.

I want to replace the two crap leds in there (I bought them in a pinch and have until feb 8th to return them, hence I must order to have everything work with shipping time wise)

I am torn between the timber model 4vs (https://timbergrowlights.com/model-4vs/)
OR
the rapid led https://www.rapidled.com/cxb3590-3-x-3-grow-kit/

I cannot find a direct comparison but am going to contact each today and tell them the story and see which I should get but wanted and needed advice from other enthusiasts..Thank you

For me I would go with the timber because its a beast of a light for 3x3.
But not knowing the full specs of the rapidled puts me off, although if I run the specs on the cob calc it says the ppf would be 690 for the 320w driver at 1400mA So the timber wins on that by a good amount.
Price wise I would say the timber is the better value option and I don't think you have to do anything with the timber light. The rapidled set up needs some assembling, though that is a non issue for most.

I'd definitely go with the rapid and use the 480h driver instead. You can switch it in the menu. That way you have more points of light, less wattage per cob for more efficiency, and less heat per heatsink. Plus CXB3590's are dope. But if you can get it cheaper using citizens or veros, I'd recommend doing that by emailing them about it. You don't need reflectors in a tent either so don't buy them.

long long phone calls and both companies are very nice. Rapidled doesnt list the specs for the 3x3 and the gentleman said i can read the 2x4 and get a good idea ...

The guy at Timber was awesome.. opened the link to the other guys and was knowledgeable enough to dissect the rapid.. He was honest and said they are indeed similar but it is the timber he said that will have the slight advantage by about 25% efficiancy.

Even if upgrading to the 480h driver, he said will give off more but if I recall it goes from 1.4 to 2.1 and the efficiency dropped dramatically according to his math..

I feel like timber is indeed the way to go..

I have a devil in my ear though telling me to scrap the 3x4 and buy a 4x4 and order 2 fluence spydr 2s
(wish I was made of money lol)

So I am leaning towards timber thus far.. (as the spontaneous 4x4 sounds amazing but will ultimately end up being way more than I planned to spend today lol)

Efficiency is high enough. What you want is the unit that puts down the most photons...that is gonna grow you the most weed

Ok I was about to order timber,,like moments away.. BUT then it happened. The phone call from my buddy (this guy should be a hype man lol) and after more reading and more phone calls.. The 3x4 tent is going away and being replaced by a gorilla 4x4.
I am going to pair it with the spydr 2 right from the start!!
It will join the 5x5 flower tent that will also be udgraded to the spydr2 after this run.
All in all way more than I wanted to spend but I seen ,first hand, the results it produces from my friend. blew my mind

Now the light is $1400 , does anyone know anyone or have connections to get a bit of a better price on that ?

they are almost white they are so frosty.. these are from the spydr2

You can build a fluence using strips and solskin boards from cutter to add blue and red for about 3/8 the price. There's nothing special about fluence or the diodes they use.
If I was gonna build a light, from scratch anyway I want, it'd be 288 boards with solskins in between.

Is there somewhere that has a build tutorial on that? or a thread with pics of the build/ light?

the diy route is obv the best bang for anyone's buck but its also a daunting task for some of us that aren't quite so electrically inclined lol

I absolutely love the timber fatty vs , that thing looks like a beast, but im pretty sure i could build the same wattage for less money, as long as the build isnt too complicated lol

I do have a cousin who is very good with this type of stuff, no doubt in my mind he can build anything i want, but i would have to show him a picture of the light or some sort of plans lol. A material list at least

what ratio of red on the solskins?
