Plants are immobile so something is needed to give them the nutrients they require.. be it other life or minerals washed in or blew in via currents/winds. A mechanic to replenish nutrients to the area is required.. no ifs or buts. That's why your comparison of under water life to indoor plants is flawed, irreversibly. Even to compare it to land based plants is flawed.

Comparing aquatic plants to land based plants is stupid. Aquatic plants have had millions of years to evolve and adapt to living in an aquatic environment. It's like comparing a fish to a deer, yeah they're both animals but they both need completely different ecosystems to live and thrive in.
