First Grow (Indoor) - Sativa

Hi this is my first grow and first post. I've been learning so much from this forum but I've come to a roadblock. I wanted to try this out so I germinated a few bag seeds to get my feet wet. Looks like this is a Sativa but so far I have zero signs of preflower and im on my 11th week of the grow. I switched to 12/12 from 18/6 on week 8 thinking I would force her to flower. So far nothing has happened. She's gone through a few defoliation's already, topped twice, and is currently under LST. I hope im making sense lol.

Made a simple 3' x 4' grow box with a mixture of LED grow bulbs (3pcs) and 6500k Bulbs (5pcs). I have one 4" intake fan and a 4" exhaust fan. Jumped in the box to check for any light leaks light and its pitch black. Substrate is a 50/50 mixture of coco coir and homemade vermicompost. No chemical fertilisers

The seeds are from locally grown outdoor cannabis from the Philippines. I've read that equatorial sativa may veg for 3-4 months before showing flower (probably not the best strain for my first indoor grow lol). Just wanted to get an opinion if im doing this correctly. I am open to any comments or feedback to this grow. Thankyou in advanced!!! Cheers

Lol if its 3-4 month veg time, and probably 12-16 week flower time ...

I would throw that plant away and go buu some indica seeds online. Sativa is not a good beginner choice, especially an old asian landrace strain you got from the wild lol.

And what if it turns out to be a male after 4 months lol man .

Your in for some heart ache if your looking for any smoke

Hey Yuckymuffins,

Your plant looks definitely heavily Sativa. When you grow pure Sativas indoors, it's best to start the seeds directly in 12/12. Or to at least flip to 12/12 after a couple of weeks. It can take them 5-6 weeks to start showing flowers.

I hope that you have enough vertical space. Also, a more powerful grow-light would help. I'm looking forward to seeing what that Filipino sativa is going to look like once full of buds.. (:

You're probably going to have to train that plant hard!! But it could be worth it

Thanks guys for the quick reply.

@projectinfo I have placed an order for two dozen seeds from seedsman (Northern Lights, White widow, Grandaddy Purple, Girl Scout Cookies). Hopefully I'll have better luck with these strains. Any recommendations for any other strains I should look at?

As for the sativa Im growing now ill continue to grow it as an experiment. Kinda curious how this thing will grow. I don't mind waiting.

@Aladdin.khalifa My current grow box is 4' tall so Im building a new grow box from an old tool locker (4'L x 3'W x 8'H) and more lights. Ill transfer my sativa to this and use my current box for the indica strains coming in. I want to try my hands on some micro growing and hardcore LST.

So far I'm enjoying everything I'm learning from this grow. So much info to soak in!!

Anyways ill keep you guys posted. Cheers

Stop topping if you haven't already. If you can rig a frame over this plant you can use tarps to provide darkness to force flower. I'm from the far south near Mexico. Sativas were all we used to have.

@hotrodharley - I stopped topping a week before I switched to 12/12. About 4 weeks ago.

The box is completely void of any outside light. Do I still need to use a tarp and rig a frame over the plant?

With pure sativas you can starts indoor with 12/12 (even 13/11) light cicle from the beggining.

Beatifull plant? Can you tell me more about it, please?: if did you smoked it before; from what área or island from Filipinas it came...

Best wishes!

As far as I know there is no light leaks. The box is in a dark room plus it's covered with a tarp just to be safe. So far they look healthy so I'll just sit back and wait.

@Montuno - The seeds come from cannabis that were grown in the mountains of Cebu, Philippines. The smoke is decent..from what I know they just cut + dry and its packed pretty tightly. Cheap outdoor grow with little care and no curing time. I usually get this when good bud Isn't available.

Perfect, thaat's a great way to learn quickly. Sativas are usualy hard to manage but awesome to learn from. And if you grow indicas at the same time, you'll really see the difference in terms of structure, growth pattern and high as well...:weed:

@Montuno Thats a nice area, was there a year ago. As for the weed in Kalinga that has to be special ordered since the bud from cebu is readily available. With the recent administration enforcing harsh drug laws the prices have skyrocketed. Cant really trust anyone right now so the option to grow at home is the safer route.

@Aladdin.khalifa the indica seeds should be coming in by next week so im pretty excited to grow some alongside the sativa. They will probably flower way before my current grow lol

Yeah, my brother. I know that you have a psicopate as president... Be very carefull n keep yourself safe.

Btw, I shows a Kalinga Filipina growed by a friend of mine in a little outdoor por in Spain here (I would like to hear your opinion):

https://www.rollitup.org/t/anyone-running-any-tropical-seed-company-strains.460542/page-3

The Phillippines' sativas was a important piece in the creation of Mexican n other HispanicAmerican landraces, n Im very interested...

Best wishes from the Legazpi's nation to you.

@Montuno Those look great. Im guessing I should expect my buds to look similar?? Didn't know that bit of history with the creation of the South American Landraces. I've got a pretty large bag full of these seeds lol. Lots of plants to practice on. I wonder what would happen if I cross-breed them with the Indica's coming in the mail.

Is so much harder n difficult to grow these Ecuatorial & Tropical landraces indoor, of course, overall like you find it "in the field" (without a selective work of breedding).
But I like a lot how your Filipina looks till now...
Havent you see how your Cebu's strain buds looks?

Yeah. But only in the Hispanic American ones.
It happened when Phillipines, México & Spain were united (as well like another kind of plants that Spanish intro in América from Phillippines, like the mango), (of course, they intro Spanish & American plants to Philippines too).
Maybe the Jamaicans, San Vicente & Granadinas, Grenade & Trinidad n Tobago have it too, if the British contined when the original Spanish grows when they conquered it to Spain, but for sure the Indians (from India) workers intro there a lot of Indian genes (Indicas & Sativas).

It can be wonderfull, but my advice is that please be very carefully that your imported Indica genetics NEVER were mixed with your amazing Phillippines landraces outdoor without control, or you can loose your actual landraces very fast, as has happened in Jamaica n is happening in México, Colombia, Morocco, India, etc...
Salud! N please, continue showing us the developement of your plant.

I did a write mistake here:
With pure sativas you can starts indoor with 12/12 (even 13/11) light cicle from the beggining.
I really wanted to write: ( 11 h light / 13 h darkness ) !

By the way, amigo : have you change your light cicle to 11light/13darkness as I wanted to advice you?
Remember to do it from seed next time with your Phillippines strains, n it will be so much easy to grow n control it indoor, you will see...
