Good thing the Americans have that second amendment to keep tyranny out of the white house. Sure has seemed to serve its purpose over the past how many decades now?
Cheers :)

Washington (CNN)Air Force One is primed to receive an upgrade that will include new refrigerators expected to cost American taxpayers nearly $24 million.

The US Air Force awarded Boeing a $23.6 million contract in December to replace two of the five "cold chiller units" aboard the aircraft used by President Donald Trump.

LOL, they piggyback, in terms of funding. So Boeing got the money but, for example, 50K went to the refrigerator and the other went to Boeing's black budget.

It's not "a refrigerator".

It's an entire refrigeration system.

The system on Air Force One at present is old, antiquated and inefficient. Part of the huge expense of extended travel by Air Force One isn't the plane itself: it's the host of aircraft that have to go with it to keep it supplied.

This new refrigeration system is going to be lighter, more powerful, more efficient, and allow for a freezer which Air Force One has never had before.

It's going to make her more efficient and able to carry enough foods for an extended trip all by her onesies rather than half to have a small entourage of support refrigeration aircraft following her around the globe to keep her stocked up.

In the end, it's going to save the American taxpayer a fortune.

The reason that it costs so much is because of all the contractual and testing requirements imposed by the military, the FAA, and any other agencies that are involved. Really not hard to find out why it "costs so much". It's a one-off aircraft (well, two-off), so expect to pay prototype prices.

Exactly.

It has to be absolutely fool proof. The end product probably only cost a couple to a few million. The rest is testing, engineering/design and the like.

The very reason why the American people have to foot being overcharge by contractors, is behind fools like you. I spent 22 years USAF while obtaining a degree from Emory-Riddle in Aerospace Engineering. If you think that 25 million is needed for a refrigeration system on two birds you are dumber than first thought. I guess we back to paying stupid prices once again. I bet you also think that paying 7,500 for a 10 cup coffee pot is a good deal as well. We did it for all our C-5.

And what the hell are you talking about supporting the entourage that supports air force one ? Do you think this plane will feed ALL support ? It will only feed those on-board. Which is about 70-80 people for about a week . The support planes like your C17, KC-135, fighter escorts, E4B. chartered planes carrying some press and other personally that could not fit on AF1. None of these are feed from AF1
