Using Gibberellic acid on old Seeds?

I have a Batch of ten year old Seeds.
They were not stored right. They were in a sealed Seedcontainer but not in the fridge.
The Genetics of those Seeds are superior and unique.
I would hate loosing them.

I tried germinating some a few times but without success.
I used different mediums and methods. Nothing worked.

I know some other crops are getting Gibberellic treatment to induce germination.

What do you guys think?
Is it worth a try on old Cannabis Seeds?
Any experience anybody?

I dont need a full Instruction....
I hoped for a answer just like: use 5% Gib. solution for 12 hours ...
Or something like that

I know, and I don't shy away from giving short answers where they are applicable.
You are dealing with something that can be lost forever so you are going to have to go the little bit further, adding the sugars and what not.
As I said there are a few videos on the topic, even kits for exactly this purpose.

I agree if you absolutely cannot lose them you might wana search out the seed kit by monstergardens?
Basically sterilize the seed and soak in what they give you and you sprout in a test tube if i recall correctly.

You could also try a kelp soak but i dont feel comfortable saying something that might cause you to lose your strain

Just my 2 hope its helpful

I got some 40 year old seeds i collected while in college.. only saved seeds that were from the very best stuff i have ever had.. the seeds in mention were indonesian if i remember correctly. Buds were hard and blackish in color and had a very unique taste. I have never seen any weed of this nature since then. i will be growing indoors for the first time this spring.. i would love to be able to bring back something long lost but really have no experience or knowledge of doing it successfully.

Thanks Guys youtube was "helpful"

I watched several videos and there are both, people with success and some without.
But the one who totally fucked up everything up was a guy who used alcohol to dissolve the ga3 and then diluted this with water.

The guy that seems trustworthy used the following setup...

Ga3 in RO water @100 and 250 ppm. He got a chart that says how many ga3 powder + how many water = x ppm

The highest germination rate was 80% @ 250ppm.

He soaked the seeds for about 12 hours in a dark place. From there he went on with papertowel method.
He got rid of the excess water and poured the rest mix + seeds in a lil container with a papertowel in it, closed lid and let this another 12 hours in a dark place. After that he took the seeds to a new plain RO water moistered papertowel in a new lil container for another 12 hours. 80% sprouted and he transplanted to small pots.

I'll get me some ga3 and test the method.

Edit: The seeds used in the video were 14-15 year old seeds so close to mine

Man this indonesian Strain sounds good for me ... blakish...taste...
I love the dark tasty phenotypes a lot.
How you stored the seeds?
40 years is a looong time. (I was 4 yr when you collected those seeds. But keep in mind the Russians germinated a couple of thousand yr old MJ seeds from a egyptian tomb.. )
Could you describe the taste?

Gibberellic Acid was used back in the day to attempt to make Feminized seeds

better chemicals are used these days and even simple Colldial Silver (9v and a dime?)

are much better than that cursed chem

strains many generations and years later still suffer the freaky effects of this DNA altering chemical

I'd be working on getting any of your strain to germ first

even perhaps contracting the germing part to an experienced Horticultural breeder

by going 50/50 type deal if that rare

this tip will cost you 2 seeds lol

In college we used fine sand paper to scuff the seed where it usually cracks in two. Didn't take much but a few strokes back and forth before germinating. Not sure if it will help with ten year old seeds but we did that for seeds that were tough to germinate or crack

Just an idea

See if you can find a student taking a tissue culture class at your local university. Or learn about tissue culture yourself. You need sterile everything and the proper food source for the very old seed embryo assuming it has not been totally destroyed by now.

Yes B1, the vitamin, hydro stores sell it as superthrive, etc.

Works good for germinating seeds. Old seeds it helps with.
