This storm is wider than the entire state. It's track will determine whether you are in peril or merely miserable, but either way, grab the pets and family and possessions and take a road trip. Sticking around for stuff or even a grow isn't worth it.

Lots of people are posting "I was here for andrew" and aren't planing on leaving. Sure, they were in state but were they at ground zero? Location is everything. I don't here anyone who was at ground zero saying they will stick it out.
All totaled my family had 3 homes practically destroyed during Andrew - they took a direct hit (the trailing eye wall is the worst btw).
I flew down from AK two days later with $10,000 cash, pistols, ammo & a chain saw - came within a millisecond of having to use all the above at one point.

Mom & Dad left 2 years later (they had been without power for MONTHS) - I know of
no one whom saw the real fury of that storm who ever wanted to see one again.

My brother by another mother , was in Pensacola during Ivan 6 hours of hell and the eye wall goes over his house and he stepped out to smoke a cig and clear night sky with only a wispy cloud . He said the smoke from his cig floated a little funny, and then the other eye wall and 6 more hours of hell . The whole house shifted when the back eye wall hit , cracked, screamed under the opposite stress.
