When the canopy is that dense I don't see a reason to keep it, my understanding was no light no bud, in some cases it can be true, I've had plants that have been so dense with leaf the shaded parts don't grow like other areas that have full light resulting in what people call ' larf or popcorn ' this is what is take off, my other understanding of it was if the plant is wasting energy feeding these under achieving area then what's the point it being there... me personally can only be bothered to chop actual buds anything that when dried would turn to dust I don't waste my time with. Each to there own was just putting my opinion out there.
