I owned a business for several years that dealt directly with customers face to face. When interviewing a possible new employee - and I only hired friends - I asked one question only:
"Fill in the blank: 'The customer is always ________.' " Without hesitation, they'd answer "right". And they were always wrong.
I'd then explain: 'No. In my business,
I am always right. You, as my representative, will always be presumed right unless I find out otherwise. The fact is, a lot of 'customers are a$$holes, and I'll always have your back.'
I showed quite a few a$$holes the exit door.
