Hey everyone. Hope all is going good for you and your's. Just wanted to start a thread about Morel hunting, and or scouting for the best places to place a small outdoor crop. Been searching for morels (mushrooms) for a few weeks now with NO luck. Until a few days ago I was out in the woods and found a small patch of may apples, not even a ft or so away was an Elm tree that was dead. I noticed 3 HUGE morels just waiting to be picked. (: I still think it needs to rain more, and the temp needs to raise just a tad and hold steady for prime morel hunting. Feel free to post any of your morel hunting adventures, would love to see them. Never have tried them. I'm a big mushroom fan, so they have to be good from the way everyone talks about them. I think I've heard they sell for around $80 a pound to high end restaurants around here.

I've seen them as high as 380$ a lb. On the net. They honestly don't even taste like a mushroom. They taste like some sort of meat or something. Pan fried in nothing but butter, rolled in flower with salt & pepper. Man o man they are BOMB!! (:

Took some over to a friend lastnight that has never tried them. Fixed them right up for him in his kitchen. Went great with a shot or two of crown royal. He couldn't believe he was eating mushrooms.

Hell no, those aren't da shrooms. Found those also. Lol. But yeah, sure did. Found atleast 3 to 4 spots I'm thinking of putting 45 or so, depending on how many of the sprouts I started makes the cut. 3 out of the 4 spots are open mostly with barely if any tree cover. So I know they will get a good amount of sunlight. The 4th spot has a little water stream running through it, down side is its directly under power lines! However it does look like they have been recently cut. So hopefully no worries there.

I was thinking about splitting the girls up and not putting them all in one patch. That way it's unlikely they will be spotted. 1st time other then in my garden growing outdoors. Just used the cover of my tomatoes and corn last outdoor season. They turned out good. Trying to figure out a good time to put them out though. Temps here this morn was down in the 40s. So I'm going to try and get them around 4 to 6" or so then put them in the spots I located. Hopefully temps will be good by then...
