Greasemonkey's Compost Pile

oh, this is what happens when you do a compost at the base of a bigass 150 yr old redwood
these are redwood tree roots... and they are BURLY.
it's literally like the roots ATE the compost, nothing left
no joke.
talk about a chore...

Wowee, that's a massive mat indeed - you can really see the calm vigour and determination in those roots :D
Isn't it amazing! How the tree senses there's yummies and grows out its roots into it!
As bothersome as it can be ;)

I stared at it for a while with the thought of "the problem is the solution", but I'm not seeing it, just yet, at the base of that tree... is there a specific reason you have to compost right there? Though given her size, probably the roots span quite an area and she'd find it elsewhere too :-P
How does it feel living right under a creature going "nyum nyum you're all miiiine nyum I'm going to eat you up no use hiding I'll find youuuu"? I'd imagine, very organic :D
Quite a challenge you're facing there, as grounding as it may be living under such a majestic tree...

So did she leave a bit for you, or are you now short on soil?

ah, and the aforementioned (purple) pink lotus
they are fading pretty badly, but I always do my pheno-hunts in smaller container ( poor plant, i use 1 gals, for that cram more in there, and just to see which are keepers or not)
the purple is a deeper darker purple in person, my camera didn't really capture it
@MustangStudFarm
and @calliandra
you two mentioned that you wanted to see pics.
this plant grown in a proper environment is going to be NICE
looks like another 2 weeks or so till it's done

Mmm ! Do the trichs purple up too? :D
How does this pheno hunting work - do you take cuttings of these and leave them in veg on the side?
And what kind of things do you look for in these dwarf versions to make them keep-worthy to you?
Cheers and happy holidays :bigjoint:

ehhh an evil-tree....
that tree from the movie Poltergeist freaaaaaked me out as a kid
and that damn fuckin clown!
anyways
nah, that's grown up from my first pile, up through that one (three feet up out of the ground), into the next one, through the rug (which is now completely gone except for the corners)
and yea... that's the only flat spot left on the property, minus up the mountain, but i'd never turn the pile if I had to climb the damn mountain everytime
but I have a solution, i'm buying landscaping bricks, and making a bottom to it
besides, i'm in a redwood tree grove, my house is literally built on top of a redwood stump (still growing slowly in the dark of under my house, remarkably)
so escaping the redwoods out here is futile, but that's sorta the allure
Mmm ! Do the trichs purple up too? :D

yea, when i pop seeds it's 6 at a time, then sexed, then cloned before flipping, but i don't have the room for those to be grown in full size, but i don't need a full size plant to determine if it's worth running again.
as far as what i look for?
well, trich size, density, colors, any unique smells, growth traits if i'm looking for "producers", which i don't do much anymore. I'll talk a small to medium yielding special smoke over buckets of avg smoke.
But about 3 weeks after flip if you rub the trichs you'll know the smell and taste (approximately)
and i am tired of the standard high thc but just "meh" tasting
i am looking for flavors and high profiles in particular
but sometimes the "rub-test" (get your mind out of the gutter!) isn't always conclusive, that's why i keep clones of ALL females
but typically after i get rooted clones of each female (double-tagged!!!!!, don't ask me why...) then i toss them into the flower room
sorta why i have been tryin to curtail my seed buying, because it's such a pain to do it, but when you find a "keeper" it's all worth it
and JUST yesterday i was lusting after a freebie from Bodhi
bruce banner x Apollo
i swear...
but yea.. always mark the container, and hook a tag on the plant, double tag!
i lost two damn strains from NOT doing that...

Haha, the wife said that had nothing to do with ball busting and everything to do with Randy trying to get MMJ.

Firstly, you just have a horrid sense of humor, it's not that I don't 'get it'. I find that it's very much like Gerald Broflovski's sense of humor...It's funny because it's not funny.
And I said that had to do with Randy being an idiot and microwaving his balls for sweet Mary Jane but I imagine you think I'm doing something like this on a daily basis...

@greasemonkeymann

so I have this compost pile/bin i've been working with in the basement. 27gal tote, probably filled with 20 gal of working compost i've been adding leaves and coffee grounds to mainly, with some kitchen scraps now and again. I have also added in several handfuls of used soil, and several handfuls of finished compost.

I just ordered 1000 redworms.... should i just turn this tote into one or two wormbins? and if i did that, all i'd basically have to do is mix in more leaves (definitely will have to split into two bins if i do that), and maybe some more used soil?

sorry my man, I was visting my ex girlfriend in friggin Redmond Oregon, MASSIVE blizzard, negative 14 degrees farenheit got snowed in (turned out ok:mrgreen:)
anyways, I was offline for a while
YES, I would be ALL over that idea, in fact it's sorta what I did, only unintentionally
just remember that the more refined it gets, (i know you know this but it's worth mentioning for the benefit of others) it tends to get finer and finer particles, so aeration is crucial
