First time growing, went a little overboard with defoliation. Never expected my girls to do this

I want to mention. Defoliation is an advanced technique. I don't know why new growers want to cut up their plant so bad but if the leaves are kept and kept healthy there is a much bigger cushion when we make mistakes. The leaves buffer the damage. More leaves. More chances to succeed.

I did it because i vegged them for 5 weeks and the just stopped getting taller after 3 weeks and the canopy was so thick 0 light was getting in, the leaf were literally layong on top of each other. here is what they looked like that and a long time grower who swears by it along with all the huge yeilds i saw made led me that i wanted to try it. But i need ti fix the priblem cannit afford to loise this crop, shitty yeild or not

If you take care of them and make sure they get what they need leaves will grow right back. He plant will be delayed but still grow and bloom.

And the light passes right through the leaves. We just can't see it it is invisible to us. Sometimes my lower buds or one I bent down and are hidden in the canopy are my biggest buds.

Bud sights do not require to be opened up for direct light.

I showed a pic of my plant to prove it already.

The best grows I have seen (commercial Black market) cut no leaves off. They do however lollipop the plants as the lights in those rooms are high up. Great growers with great genetics grow great pot. And they learn how and when to use the tools available.

I also would like to say I have never tried to grow for yield. I had no gardening experience myself 3 years ago. I did know and frequent professional growers since I was young. I always was involved with the weed since the early eighties.

But the point is. Learn to keep them healthy as simply as possible before trying advanced techniques. And the potency and yield will follow.

I never force light or feed or harsh techniques on my plants. And I am still getting gains in yield and potency all the time with new plants even with the same genetics.

I actually only just started running some clones off my plants because I didn't want to cut branches off. Those low 4 branches tend to grow me some nice nugs.

And to prove direct light has little to do with it. Those low hidden nugs are usually among the frostiest and most potent and tasty on the plant.

Yeah if you have penetration of light enough you can grow em and get a little better budding underneath.

The COBS well they don't have penetration like the bulbs do....light intensity and penetration dies off pretty quickly.

With COBS you want to know what happens 2 feet down or so under all those leaves? LARF.

I dont have the head room to test a 100w cob.....no idea if those have better penetration.

I would guess it's still not even close to the bulbs.

Looks like the 315 LEC is doing it too. But I would need to flower a plant full cycle under it to say for sure.

yeah that's why the bulbs are still kicking right now....if cobs could penetrate like the better bulbs.....it would be over for them.

Ok guys i need to know if this can be cured cause i am literally seconds from ripping the enture crop up to dusinfect the room and start over cause i think it may have gotten into my buds i as m so fuckin furious that i am about to pop i cant believe tgey we as healthy as can be a weej ago and now they are fucked

Is this plant a better example? Much leafier pheno. I never cut off a healthy leaf. I have only cut a few clones to reveg off this one.

How did you keep every single branchs stand up without falling down at all .

I can done this sometime when I keep the plant short , but some branchs still fail at week 5-7 。 I real want to fine a way to grow some healthy plants with hard strong branches .

It is a seed plant. Clones flowered early can be weak stemmed. But I think just good gardening practices and the proper environment is all I offer.

I only use ocean forest and pure blend pro grow.

I'm sure the genetics have something to do with it

Some of the stretchier phenos need some support at the last weeks. But I mean weeks 11 to 13.

Like he said at the beginning of this post he went overboard with the lollipopping and defoliation. If you are going to defoliate then you don't really need to lollipop them. The point of the defoliation is to let light into the lower bud sites so that they fill out. if you prune out all of those lower bud sites then there is no need to defoliate. Luckily he is growing Blue Dream which is the easiest strain in the world to grow. He might actually end up with some decent nugs but he is not going to have a bigger yield than he would have had if he had just lollipopped and not defoliated. Whenever I defoliate a crop it always makes the plants take at least a week longer to finish so he might have just delayed his harvest by a week or so.
You are right about the leaves being storage. The cheap-ass in me always thinks about all the nutrients that I am just throwing in the trash when I am stripping leaves off a plant. I have been experimenting with defoliation techniques for a couple of years now and it is always variable and tricky to do. A couple of days one way or the other can make a big difference. I once defoliated half a table of plants and then ran out of time and didn't get to the other half until two days later and the first half of the plants yielded twice as much as the second half. When doing serious defoliation the rule of thumb seems to be to strip all the leaves once right when you put them into flower and then do it again about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks later.

I have done the way pertty much like the way how you grow bro, only the 2nd defoliation earlier than yours about 2-3days after flowering ( normally ).

But last time i have been super busy so I had the 2nd defoliation much later when it turned week 2-3 . Surprisingly i found that might be the time i should do that . All the buds are growing much better than before .

As I am new been growing for about 2yrs only , before I was doing perrty much like what other people told me . But most of them were the one i expected , i started growing with my own way mix other online infos about a year ago . I'm so glad that you shared the information I need .

Now I can be surly to defoliation .

Have you ever heard another defoliation technique at around week 4-6 ? I have been heard lots grower done that to increase yield and decrease the chance of bud rot .

I had seen the threads but thought I had read the last page on this one, looking back I missed a couple. That's gonna be tough to beat with no leaves to sacrifice. I tried heavy defoliation with tomatoes the summer before last to disastrous results after we got hit with a vicious mold, usually with a blight or mold i would have clipped the bad leaves and used neem and copper rotations. No leaves to spare and already bearing fruit they didn't have the energy to fight it. I picked all of em off, ready or not and they started growing new leaves and starting over, however way too late to matter. Hope they make it, I've never had spider mites or pm on cannabis so I can't be any help there

What hes referung to are pics in the newbie forum that ive been postingcause some asked me to lost them to see what happens, the pm hes refering to was splash back from the last watering with nutes that i didnt clean off, as far as bugs someone said they saw what looked like a web starting or maybe just a hair. i can assure you there are no bugs hes being a dick.

It was from the last time i watered them it splashed back up into the lower leaf dried up nute resudue i did spray off. i dont know what bugs your talking about cause all that person said was they thought they saw a start of a web or it could just be a hair. Which was most likely a strand of string. That and your right he did ask me for pics not your snide comment crapping on my crop. and yes there have been alot of people that have helped me and i appriciate anyone who does. But you are the first one to shit on me with out being able to make a sure fire diagnosis by a pic. if they were so bad why hasnt it been an issue till now.

Actually you can still see pm all over your top leaves. That Is not splaskback up there. The spots on your floor and all over you buckets could be splashback (if so you are messy as hell) but again you didnt splash leaves. Do you even have a jewelers loupe to look for bugs cause you cant see them with eyes. Which you were told possible bugs and pm from numerous people on here. Guess we are all trolls.
