LED opinions

Hello guys i have been researching for a while now but since there seem to be so many bullshit reviews made my companies or their employees which LED light is the best of the best when money is not a concern at all?
i would be looking for one that could replace a 600-1,000W HID/HPS

thanks for your time figured some of you guys have a decent amount of experience in this matter.

Probably COBs are going to be your answer.
i was thinking that as well but i don't want to build them myself i want to buy a light is there a place that sells good COB's? and how does it work for veg and flower is there a switch to change from veg to flower? or just use it the same way for both growth stages

Many options in diy or prebuilt in cobs. I went with cobs due to stealth considerations. 800w in 15 sq ft. Only 4" blower at approximately 75 cfm moves enough air through my diy cob cool hoods to keep me below 85 deg 4" below a cob running each cob at about 45 watts. Very silent as well. Ymmv

Currently running 2 tasty led (200w) each per 4x4 and im very impressed. Never ran this strain before so idk how it compares to my hps 600 but im expecting over a gpw and while they do get hot is not even remotely close to a hps.
I should also add that i haven't experienced any crazy foxtailing like i usually get with hps, guess is due to the cooler temps.
I harvested a freebie that i flowered in a half gallon pot and got over a O of rock hard buds, no fluff even the popcorn was dense.
So far so good, would definitely recommend tasty leds

I love the spyder x plus by fluence. It draws 683 watts and outperforms my 1000w hps. The light bars can be unplugged individually and rotated to focus light if desired. My upstairs ambient temperature is 5 degrees warmer than my downstairs but despite that my upstairs tent is still 7 degrees cooler than my down stairs HPS.

this light looks like it will give perfect coverage for my 4x4 tent, did that company use to be BML? they made some good quality lights and called them spyder as well

Yes. It's fluence now. The spyder x plus is the successor to the previous spyder 1200. It's about $300 cheaper with a slightly more efficient heat to par ratio. I finance it for 12 months and paid it off in 10 weeks after my first yield. I have it in my 4x4 and it covers the entire foot print. Well worth it

Blowing air across/down the bars increases efficiency. I did this with my BML S 600 as it ran pretty hot. Nick replied about the increase in efficiency

DIY COBs like Timber Grow Lights or others. Or a 315 Watt LEC which = t about a 600 watt HPS.

Avoid the Chinese LED junk on AMazon and eBay. Some of those are okay in veg but pretty worthless in flower.

Nice set up. Are you do flood and drain in hydroton for veg there? What do you do in flower? Leaves and plants look awesome.

Fluence stuff is really gorgeous and their email cust svc is great.

so you just want one light unit ?

Like a hps you want a single box if you will with one plug and say just 1 "lamp" that emits light ?

A 1000w+ draw led single cob unit can be made

but the reason why a lot of led growers yield big is because the emitters are spread all around the grow and ran underrated this gives so many lighting angles and cuts out shade areas, giving more yield

Kinda like how some tube lamp growers claim to be out yielding hps growers also why grows with 6 or more 600w hps lamps over a large area seem to get way more gpw then a grow using one hps in a smaller space

but I do think you could still build a 600w or 1000w led unit that would have 1 to 6 emitters on it and match a hps

I would go for a 3000k unit for flowering as if your used to hps red or red/blue lamps can make it tricky to see your plants and see how they are doing

red light along side 3000k will add more yield but some strains grow a bit funny when you flood them with just red light, a lot take it well

So yeah 1st choice is if you want a huge panel with loads of 1w ot 3w or 5w led chips or a unit with 10 to 30 "cob" led chips

or you know a unit with 1 to 6 cob chips

or maybe you dream of a 1000w led chip in an aircooled hood ? maybe even side light with one too

some times with led the best part is you get more gpw and you get less heat so you can use 2000w of led where you could only use 1000w of hps before and yield more

some people just like it cos they can use less power, yield more and water less or use smaller pots and such, sometimes that`s a smart move too

Shop around LED`s and induction lamps have dropped in price a lot over that past few years

I have 49 clones in my flood tray. Was going to be 50 but the overflow tube takes up some space. After they rooted I vegged for 3 days then switched to 12/12. They are in expanded clay pellets. I rinse the pellets, then soak them in 5.5 pH water before using them. My feeding schedule is the flora series by GH but around 1/3rd strength. I trimmed the bottom half of the plant.

Yeah, whats with everyone saying LED doesn't produce much heat? They certainly do. Especially without an air cooled enclosure. I have a little clip pan pointing somewhat upwards at an angle on the bars to force that hot air into my exhaust which is at the top of the tent

They don't radiate heat towards the plants, like HPS, but the non fanned heat-sinks definitely get hot. Cool them and improve your efficiency
