Cheap and Cheerful DIY using Citizen cobs

@coreywebster I have the same issues, I could use the simulator on MS office suite 2010 but then my lappy went, I got another with MS office suite 2007 (non-registered) so I was only able to open and view the file but that was it, so I installed open office 4.1.2 and whilst I can open and edit the file, the values come up N/A.

So it could be a compatibility issue and you might need to run office 2010 or newer.
Cheers Johnnycannaseed ! I will look into getting a newer version.

Hey Millsie, what program should that simulator open with? I have tried it several times from different threads when its been linked.
Every time it just opens with exel viewer and appears as a spread sheet where I cant input anything. I gave up the first few times and forgot about it.. Now I've invested in some clu058s Im determined to get that sim to work.

Cheers
you could use excel online, i used it too for the that simulator

edit try to open this data @ excel online

Hey evilmobo ignore my previous figures because they are incorrect. In the previous calculation I said 7.5 when it should of been 2.5 Pop22's table made me see the error of my ways lol ...see adjusted calculation below;-)

54.6watts x 2.5ish (umol/w) = 136.5 or rounded up 137umols/s per COB

12 (COBs) x 137umols/s = 1644umols/s per 1.2m2 = very good - maybe a tad high for a 1.2m2 area.

I still think you can get by on 10 COBs@1370umols/s and probably 9 for 1233umol/s

For a veg set up I reckon 6 COBs per 1.2m2 area will take you to the uppermost limit of where you want to be, so it still might be worth you experimenting with 4 COBs to see how you get on.:peace:

hey jorge, what do you think about these cobs roobin has listed?have you built anything with these yet? im not seeing alot of info on them yet but i just started looking, figured i would ask you first.

Not sure what you mean. All the Citizen stuff is just different numbers of the same dies, same phosphor, in different packaging. In other words, there isn't much info really to give. They'll be more efficient than 1212s at the same wattage, and less efficient than 1818s :)

Not my table lol, saw it elsewhere on RIU thought it would help

If I remember correctly Jorge created that table, which I have to say I really liked the look of because it seems to measure up when compared to some other metrics I had seen, problem was I had forgotten about it until you posted it here lol, so nice job on that one.

I did indeed create that table, by hacking a front end onto the Citizen simulator combined with my own digitizing of Citizen's SPD charts to calculate all of the photon flux and efficiency numbers. So those are relatively accurate numbers, as far as Citizen is concerned. Robin got a couple of LERs directly from Citizen and they were within a percent or two of mine.

I've just given up on trying to be organized at this forum. The owners aren't interested, and some users get inexplicably angry when you suggest different editing rules. Whatever. The charts are buried here: https://www.rollitup.org/t/cheap-and-cheerful-diy-using-citizen-cobs.909460/page-13#post-12802292

Those charts would be in the top post if I could. As long as you only compare them to things like the Cree PCT or Bridgelux data sheet/simulator, they should be useful.

I've just read through this entire thread, it's been really educational, if sometimes a little confusing. I'm particularly interested in the 1212 as a veg light, even though I'm getting more open to the other cobs from citizen as flower lights too. Does the 1212 come in 6500K? Haven't seen any data on it. I'm thinking eleven 1212s on a hlg-185h @500 mA for a whopping 187w. What kind of distance from the lights do you think I'm looking at?

Got my brain storming/farting session over at https://www.rollitup.org/t/project-new-cob-veg-light-planning-thread.921656/page-2, please drop in and leave your two cents.

it does: https://cobkits.com/product/citizen-clu048-1212-80cri-choice-of-color-temps/

So @9"
depends how close you mount them to each other. at 500 mA one 1212 is about 175 umol @ 12". 5 of them close together is about 900 umol. so unless youre mounting all 11 right next to each other, 12" seems like a safe distance
Should I understand from this that the pf/w for the 1212 is @24"? 17wX2.5 =42.5, so half the distance equals 4x the light, so 170ish? 12" is about a foot, if my Euro brain is on board. So one foot distance between cob and canopy and one foot between cobs. Sounds like a recipe for some even lighting right there.
Still trying to make certain that the 6500K is it for veg, any input?

Btw, do you guys ship to Europe? I like to do my business with people who take pride in what they do.

i dont know anybody in our community that stocks 5000k citis tho thats a popular color with CDI and they usually have them
I purchased 12 clu048-1212 6500k and 3 hlg185-1400b for my veg light. Gonna put 4 cobs on a 6×36 inch heatsink. 3 bars in a 4×6 space. I figured this would suffice for a good veg light. I currently veg with a T5 fixture, which uses 485 watts. Looks like 500-600 watts of 1212s should be more than enough
