I have noticed the same thing, while combing over lab results at analytical360.com - appearances can deceive.

Interesting info mo. Ty for taking the time. I must confess, i still have so much to learn in regards to breeding.


What traits do you look for in your males? And have you noticed a trend as to what traits pass the heaviest from the males?

You want shorter more squaty males with shorter node spacing. Long stretchy males tend to have more hemp traits and are no good. That's about it really. The traits you see in a female you won't see in a male really. True breeding would be to breed with every male. And then pheno hunt 100 seeds at a time til you can find the traits you want in that female that correlate to the male you used.

Most of us can't do that. My last time I chose a male. I just flowered 14 males. Chose the one that was most appealing to me , that had the best structure and had the best smell from a stem rub. That doesn't necessarily translate to the terpene profile that plant will produce. Some of the time it does.

Hardcore breeders like Chimera say the only way to choose is trial and error. You don't know what you have with a male to run a 100 seeds of its off spring so to speak. Like I said above.

I have the same book and I have to agree. I think you hit the point Mohican, once you have grown 100's, 1000's, etc etc plants you will know whats good and whats not on sight when it comes to male selection. @hyroot, good point on fast stretching males being more of a hemp quality; in that regard I yanked the Shoji OG male up as it was still stretching for the sky. Copper Rhino male smells spicy and the Aloha Grape Stomper male also has a nice smell and all the rest of the points I would look for.
 
Males need to be tall so they can drop the pollen on more ladies. I usually let one tall male get through just to pass on some dominant traits. Mother nature is still the master when it comes to showing off some crazy phenotypes.

Another thing about growing the same strain over and over is that your plants get acclimated to your growing environment. That is why I keep letting these stray seedlings grow. They are completely products of this backyard environment.
 
No wind here. It's nice in the shade. Still hot outside. . We just went out to brunch. Sat outside in half shade. There were misters too. The whole valley is so crowded because of Coachella. Hipsters everywhere.

Shit Mo I know what you mean about those hot winds. Its easy pushing 100 here in the afternoons, feet burning on the tiles upstairs hot.
