we bought this house last november, the beds haven't been used in years. we cleaned them out, but the dirt/clay is hard and stale. any suggestions? 3 100' beds, 24'' tall, about 6' wide...more about container gardening but to be honest I don't know have never tried it in a raised bed ?
Best way to losen old clay is with gypsum then mix in a bit of compostwe bought this house last november, the beds haven't been used in years. we cleaned them out, but the dirt/clay is hard and stale. any suggestions? 3 100' beds, 24'' tall, about 6' wide...

Isn't stank kind of a genetic thing? Some plants just smell stronger than others, no?I have talked about it in so many threads I really have no idea of which one to pick lol
Simply put ya just need to eliminate things that stress em or what I like to say things they don't like. Plants don't like to be crowded, they don't like to touch each other, they don't like too much of anything, this includes light, they don't like improper spectrum's, they don't like improper pressure (think barometric/atmosphere), they don't like imbalances (this mostly applies to nutes), they don't like improper/unnatural light timings. They don't like bugs or critters eatin on em. Just like us, they are genetically programmed to to thrive, to eat, to procreate, to rest and being in an environment that allows these things to occur naturally makes them happy.
I have had growers tell me that after readin my stuff they simply opened their tent and the smells went away IMO a tent is the worst place to grow
yeppers fo sur rinsing is a good thing !!!Special kitty all natural from wal mart. 25 lbs for $4. (thanks rm3!)
I rinse thoroughly before mixing but that may not be necessary.
yeah that is what every one says but I have yet to grow a strain that stinks ?Isn't stank kind of a genetic thing? Some plants just smell stronger than others, no?
I must be doing something wrong, because my flower room smells like skunk carcass.
Maybe you just need to blow your nose or trim the nasal hair LOLyeah that is what every one says but I have yet to grow a strain that stinks ?
Perhaps it tis I doin something wrong
Nah, that's not the problem cause da swat team that rolled up on the crib last week couldn't smell em either LOLMaybe you just need to blow your nose or trim the nasal hair LOL

i have stinkless strains that will run someone out of the room when dry, but i've had super stinky plants too... the oscillating fan seemed to make them put the smell outMaybe you just need to blow your nose or trim the nasal hair LOL

My plants never stink while growing, choppin em is a different story thoughi have stinkless strains that will run someone out of the room when dry, but i've had super stinky plants too... the oscillating fan seemed to make them put the smell out
the plants i am growing at the moment have very little smell compared to most othersNah, that's not the problem cause da swat team that rolled up on the crib last week couldn't smell em either LOL
Good thing they were at the wrong address though that whole North South thing
not to mention all the growers that have visited over the years that couldn't smell em ?
pretty sure it's not my nose
that was my experience too when i was running 10kw. they didn't really smell until you started man-handling themMy plants never stink while growing, choppin em is a different story though
i agree that heat light and air movement will make them smell more in the roomi have stinkless strains that will run someone out of the room when dry, but i've had super stinky plants too... the oscillating fan seemed to make them put the smell out
Huh. I'm definitely open to some learnin. I honestly haven't noticed any difference in how smelly my room is over the years. It was stinky when I was a novice, and it's stinky today...even though I have improved a good deal during that time, and my plants appear to be healthier now than the first few crops I grew.yeah that is what every one says but I have yet to grow a strain that stinks ?

Nothing in what you posted ,,,, no ?Huh. I'm definitely open to some learnin. I honestly haven't noticed any difference in how smelly my room is over the years. So, at least visually my plants appear healthy and stress free...but they still stink?
Do you have any specific ideas I could try? I don't over crowd the room. Plenty of room in the 10 gal buckets I use for the roots to stretch out. Amended soil that doesn't run hot (I use a fair bit of sulfer (garden gypsum)). Temps are in the 80'ish range during lights on. No bugs. Home made worm poo. Not much in the way of topping/bending/training.
Anything stand out to you that might contribute to my smelly plants?
I give em a gentle breeze from a fan 12 feet awayi agree that heat light and air movement will make them smell more in the room
