Bushcrafting, the weed addition: Bugout patch

Yesterday I got to walk the land where the CP and LL holes are at. The CP patch was in an old chicken pen. Now the coop has been torn down and the holes are much more open than they were. I spotted them from 10 feet with no problem. I'll try to sneak in and smooth the dirt out better and add more leaves for camo. I might be able to use them next summer, but I'm not going to chance it this year. The LL trench might be usable though. The fence row debris is piled up in the brush real close to the spot, but it makes a good barrier. I'll wait a couple of months and see what level of activity there is.

I picked up a new fire starter a couple of weeks ago. It's by the Bear guy. I can't remember his name. Works pretty good. I've been drying out some Spanish moss for tinder, but it's always a good idea to keep a little dryer lint around just in case. This is a standard upside down fire, before and after I sparked it up. {I really need to finish cobbing my camp fireplace}

My buddy picked me up a bag of slightly compressed, slightly green weed, 26 grams for $130. It smoked out not as bad, and the price was way better than expected. I'm going to use some of the seeds to try to teach my buddy to grow {the swamp grow}. {and I may grow some of it to sell to him when the swamp grow fails} I got 15 cups of potting soil ready and shucked out 15 nice fat seeds. But when I got up, there was a seed in my chair. I took it as a sign from the Ganja Gods and got another cup ready. I'm going to call the strain BST, which might have had something to do with the Beef Steak Tomatoes I had just transplanted from cups into gallon pots. {recycle, reuse, reduce} Since I'm going to use it to teach my buddy, it could stand for Bag Seed Trainee.

I've heard Sub Cool say that you get more males when seeds germinate at 80* or above, so I watered them with hose water that had been in the sun all morning. {It's 75F here today} I'll do a few of my Sidetracked: seeds in the swamp grow and wouldn't mind a cross breed.

On the swamp grow front, it looks like we are going to use 5 gallon buckets mostly. I did spot an ice chest in the dumpster at work, so that is one container down. I've got a line on buckets for $2.00 but don't want to buy anymore than I have to.

I got out yesterday and added 3 holes to the HR patch, and 6 holes to a patch I'm calling PH {palmetto and holly}. It's another down tree {two downed trees in fact} patch. I had to cut a lot of young holly trees to get light in. But I like growing in holly trees. The color is close to weed and it doesn't lose it's leaves in the fall. Each of these nine holes have 1 cup 14-6.5-14 {with lime and Epson salts} and 1 cup 13-7-13 time release. I left enough for 5 more holes in the woods.

Here is one of the HR holes, with and without camo.

It's been a few days since I posted, so here is an update.

I had to move the Slo2 and Slo3 seedlings sooner than I would have liked. My old bugman always sprayed around the house, but he never went around the fence in the backyard. My new bugman walks the fence spraying, and since my nursery is near the fence, I went ahead and moved them out to where I put the 5 CP1 plants. I have always used the hide in plain sight method, but don't want to risk it when I know he's coming.

I culled two more Slo3, keeping only one each of the straight leaf and crumpled leaf pheno. About half of them had the crumpled leaf. {I didn't have my camera, but will take and post pictures later} I will cull the 10 Slo2 down too, just didn't have time to decide the other day.

Saw the first sprout in the GV1 this morning. Just cracked the ground.

Yesterday I put 12 GV3 seeds in peat moss pucks.

Larry, can you share more about germination conditions and sex of the plant. Even if old wives tales, I'd be interested to know.

Subcool from TGA Genetics said if you are above 80F during germination it will increase the % of males. I have heard him mention it several times on the Weed Nerd show, on his Subcool420 You Tube channel. He is an inside grower, so he was talking about veg and clone room conditions, but he swears by it. He has posted all his articles here {on RIU} to make it easier to find what you are looking for.

I'm going to test it later in the spring by germinating inside an old car. I would like to get a couple of males from each of my 11 sets of seeds.

Thanks Larry, I found a some info on Google just now that said a few things. I'm still absorbing knowledge and know that there is plenty of bs out there. Anyhow, I'll list hot points I took away from this article. (To increase % of female)

~14/10 light schedule especially during 3-4 week. 24/0 increases %males.

Optimum nutes 6-4-3 during 3-4 week

High humidity and lower temp (near 70) during week 3-4

Keep soil moist during week 3-4. Don't drown it, but don't let the top dry out like normal.

Keep a constant environment.

Thanks. As I'm trying to get more males, I would do the opposite of all that:smile:

Since I'm growing outdoors from germination to harvest, there isn't much I can do about most of it. Trying for more males to select from is why I'm starting so many seeds.

if you start seeds in dirty you've flowered females in that can give you more males

All my girls were grown out in the woods, in the ground. But I did do some soil mixes this year. I might try that next season.

if you want to hemi a female spray it with GA3 after harvest maybe cut one early

they`ll veg and boom all stretched and if your lucky you can shock them to make male pollen, easy way to get pollen that will produce a high level of females, I`d just avoid doing it to a strain like Kali mist for example as that can sometimes hermi anyway
