I went to the maximum yield show last July both days in L.A., industry day went with Inda Gro with members from here and public day went back with a friend of another member from here. Saw a number of led's a few I've never seen before and checked them out. Other than that I could care less what lights anyone grows with. Be happy with whatever you're growing with.

Hey guys,
New member here. Been growing off and on for 45 years.smoking longer than that.Started on the net with a 14.4 modem.took 2 or 3 minutes to load a Web page, lol! Anyway, don't you guys realize chuckles is a troll or an idiot? Probably a combination of both . Never argue with a moron, you can't win and you both wind up looking retarded!

Credit to @bicit for freying, but this is the first time I've checked this thread in weeks.

...because I know it's only a matter of time til the holdouts give up.

The DOE projects 66% efficiency before it's all said and done (and this is referring to nominal drive currents). LED is already the efficiency leader (and cost over time leader), and will only get better as things progress.

yes but what is "nominal"?

seem arbitrary

Nominal is set by the manufacturer. It takes into account a minimum of thermal cooling to achieve the operating temperature that will survive the suggested lifespan. Running 3590s at .5 amps... over 66% efficiency, now not tomorrow. But the DOE statement is refering to a nominal current. If we assume the DOE is correct then in the not too distant future the average LED fixture will be providing 220+ LPW and horticulture will have very little to do with it, though growers will be using it just like everyone else. Underdriving COBS 5-10 years from now will reach into the 70s touching on 80% efficiency.

None of your fucking business , thats who..
Bottom line is both types of lighting being discussed are advancing and I wouldnt count one type or the other out quite yet.
link to any substantial advance in efficiency in DE lighting in last 3 years?

I could instead refer you to older discussions instead of tearing apart your post and expose your typical extreme bias, but what would be the fun in that...

1. A gavita DE 1000 costs $450-500, not $800.

How much were Gavita's when they were brand new?

If you haven't noticed, COB LEDs aren't exactly in the mainstream cannabis scene....Yet. This is the very beginning to a new indoor lighting revolution.
Not knocking Gavita's because I know they put in work, but lets be real.. all lighting is looking to be more efficient.

LEDs are more efficient at creating light.

Whether you understand that statement is of no consequence.

2. A phillips DE has a lumen ouput (in the par region) of 140-ish thousand whopping lumens. Yeah, remove those inflated reflection losses and it will still out do your numbers.

Not true, and I will provide data on my next post.

3. A gavita DE 1000 can be boosted to 1150w.

Wow, it can be even more inefficient!

4. A gavita can raise the temps far enough for the high ppf to actually be efficient.

Climate Control?? Leaf Temps??

5. A phillips DE bulb costs closer to $100 than $50, in all fairness, but clearly does not change anything about your so typically skewed and biased theoretic comparison.

So DE maintenance is more expensive? Yes.

6. A gavita is of a professional, high grade, safe, quality that will last longer than it needs too, just like the leds. Unless you boil them... The leds that is...

It's a light socket screwed to a ballast, with a cheap thin reflector. And we do get RMA's on them every now and again. The only benefit to the Gavita is how ridiculously bright the Philips DE bulb is.

Well designed LED fixtures will last well over a decade with high output.

How many bulb replacements is that?

7. You confuse power usage with efficiency in general.

Same power consumption... More Light..... Light is what grows plants.........

This is actually a pretty simple formula.

Do you understand efficiency? Efficacy?
